Sub positioning help required .....

Hi everyone,

Have attached a small diagram of my lounge / hc room. Any ideas on the best place for the sub? To go with m&k Xenon 26s fronts and 26 surrounds at the back. Was looking at SVS subs, not too big as well! Was thinking of maybe 2 x SB12+ (one in each corner at the front) but not sure how the sofa and wood furniture would affect them?

Any help would be great!

Thanks, James

I'd prefer something like this:

You can scale the subs to match your own taste.

Nice! Like the way you put the plan in the post! Problem with that is ... the wife! They need to be more hidden than that, there is also a small radiator in the bay part of the room.

Forgot to say in original post that room size is 13.5ft long into bay, 12.8ft wide and 9.2ft high, whether this makes any difference, I am not sure.

Thanks, James

Couldn't agree more, James.

More seriously though: The SB12+ is a 14" cube. Make it pay its way and bung an ornament or small lamp on top.
It instantly becomes an ornament stand instead of a horrid subwoofer.
If you have two ornaments, or two lamps, then naturally you'd need two stands.
The lady of the house chooses the ornaments or lamps and possibly a pretty little cloth to throw over the sub(s).
Lateral thinking and basic psychology Part 1.

We all have to live with what we have. Few of us have the luxury of choice.
Your room could work very well with a compact subwoofer like the SB12+.
It has controls which can be adjusted for room size and personal taste in bass.

Re: Sub positioning help required .....

Thanks Nimby, I sometimes wish I could hide the wife away somewhere, but I reckon I'd be arrested

Would my idea of two subs balance each other out better? or is it a waste having two when one will do for the size of room I have? I suppose that 2 subs the same size would not give any lower bass, as at the end of the day they are both just 12", therefore would not be the lowest, but living in a semi-detched, perhaps a bigger sub would be a bad idea anyway?

Re: Sub positioning help required .....

Two subs can't reach any lower than one but will produce more lower bass making it more audible or noticeable.
The further you can position a subwoofer (and speakers) from the party wall the better.

Given your domestic circumstances, room size and having neighbours I'd satisfy yourself with a single SB12+.
Then check whether they can hear it next door. If you can tell when they go out that would be a suitable time for a bit more bass welly. (wife permitting)
