Re: Linn komponent 120 or BK gemini?
I have heard the Linn, we used to have one in the shop. It was the most unimpressive subwoofer I have ever had the misfortune to listen to.

If you're prepared to spend £289, then get the XLS-200, not the Gemini. It has significantly greater performance.

They don't actually call it a "subwoofer". More of a woofer then?

Re: Linn komponent 120 or BK gemini?
Doesn't exactly look like it's going to rival a proper Sub....
I'd echo the above and look at the BK XLS-200 as it seems to great reviews and having seen some graph responses recently it seems impressive for its size.

Are you trying to talk yourself into one Scott?

Re: Linn komponent 120 or BK gemini?
LOL, which the Linn?
Is it tight?
Have decided to save for an SVS SB12+ or the Dyn Sub 250... ideally would like to listen to them first but given the better built in EQ options on the SVS that may win!

Re: Linn komponent 120 or BK gemini?
The Sub 250 offers an interesting feature set, as it offers even more than REL when it comes to integrating main speakers in stereo mode. However, it doesn't offer dual high and low level inputs, so as to which feature set grabs your attention will largely affect your desired modus operandi - LFE or stereo reinforcement?
The SVS is undoubtably a far more powerful sub and this counts when it comes to depth of response from a sealed box. It's designed this way and the room compensation control is quite literally a way of turning down this deep response.
In my limited experience, a good subwoofer tuned downward will offer even lower distortion. Given the staggering, off the scale, distortion figures from the Sub 500 in a recent test, I'd say this gives a clue as to which way you should jump.
It may also be worth bearing in mind, that you won't always have neighbours down stairs. When I thought I'd just bust my balls to own my first house, I'd have laughed in your face if you'd told me I'd be on my third within 4 years. Come to think of it, I've been through more subs than houses in that time and the SB-12 would best all of them, bar the current one.
At the end of the day, I'd just like to get to the bottom of this. How about you?
