don't worry about having to use different settings for music and movies, this is quite common. most people would select higher crossover and gain settings for films.

Hi Jace
Have you got a trim(bass managment) on your av receiver,On my old nad receiver i could alter the subs gain by lowering it on the remote a few db when listening to music then raising it when watching movies.
You should be able to do this if you can do a speaker test on your remote you can lower the subs output on that when listening to music then put it back up afterwards. On every sub ive owned the settings have been lower on the sub when music listening.
Cheers Gonzo.
