Sony DAV Sb300 SUBWOOFER connection

Hi,

I have Sony DAV SB300 (all-in-one) system and I was going to change the dvd/reciever unit for seperates but keep the speakers and sub.

I know that I can connect up the speakers to another amp without any problems but will the connections for the sub be possible with a seperate amp?

The conection at the moment involves 2 cables similar to the systems standard speaker cable.

They claim the sub is active so I assume one delivers power and the other sound however I am not sure how sub connection are made on a standard amp and am concerned that the two will not be compatible.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated

the sb300 sub has two drivers. Each speaker wire feeds a driver afaik

the speakers are the weak link in that system. Junk the lot and go for some Tannoy FX5.1s or something
