MJ Reference Sub Settings?

Hi all,

Have just purchased this amp and having a bit of a play around with it just now. I just wondered if anyone has this Sub, what do you have the settings at? This could possibly save me some time fiddling about with it. I have it connected by Neutrik Hi-level and low level, if this makes any difference. Should i need to keep adjusting it for Music/movies? Would be very interested to hear any views on this.

Thanks

Astro

Which reference sub do you have? the Ref 150 connected in the same way as you. I have phase set to 90, frequency contour at 80 and the high/low controls at about 30% round.

These settings suit my room and front speakers. Hope this helps.

Hi James,

It's the Ref 100 i have. I'll try the settings you have and see how they are. I don't like to fidle around with the settings all the time, just would be best if there was a 'common' setting for Movies and Music.

Cheers

Martin

The sound of any sub is very dependant on the room and different placement can make all the difference. Use the manual if you have it or download it, to give you some ideas, then try it in different locations and with different settings untill it sounds best to you. Subs are a tweakers paradise (or nightmare).

The settings I asm using are pretty much what MJ Acoustics recommend in the manual. I don't have the high/lo dials at 12 o'clock like they recommend as I found this too overpowering.

I know what you mean abut tweaking!

Do you understand what the LFE setting does on the frequency contour dial? When I turn this on the sub seems to try and play a full range of sound rather than just the bass.

The LFE setting is actually 'LFE Bypass'. This means that the sub will play the full range of the signal sent to it by the AV Amp/Receiver, rather then the range of frequencies below the frequency you would otherwise have it set to, say 80hz.

I have mine set to LFE bypass since I got the humming sorted (earthed the receiver) so that the signal processing is done solely by my AVR2803 rather then AVR 2803 and Ref 100 sub. I don't (yet!) use a high level connection.

Thanks for this. I only recently plugged in the high level connection and found it made a significant positive difference to the overall sound quality. Definitley worth a go.
