BK XLS-200DF MKII + Denon 1909
Has anyone out there got the denon 1909 and a BK XLS-200DF ?
i have and i have had a few problems setting it up with audissey.
with my last sub (Rel Quake) no real problems went through the automated setup 6 seating positions ect all was ok. With the BK when it plays the test tones to the sub its very weak, all the other speakers the tones are loud and clear.just very weak to the sub. the little Rel used to vibrate the room with the test tones on audissey but not the BK i am doing something wrong ??.
when i play a blu ray disc on the Audissey settings the sub is doing nothing really and i have to turn it up on the remote to about +4 to get a good deep sound, the audissey sets it up about -2 roughly everytime i try it.
Please can someone out there help me.oh by the way the sub works great on the hi level with music also.

not had any experience with the rel but i do with the xls 200, what have you got the xls 200 set at on its own xover and what is your amp xover setting and have you got the phase correct with the sub and mains.

Re: BK XLS-200DF MKII + Denon 1909
There is a thread over on the AVSForum 'Official Audyssey thread' and lots of info on there including, on the first post, an optimum setup guide:
Official Audyssey thread
You need to make sure that the crossover is turned 'OFF' on your sub, phase to '0' and that the gain is set such that Audyssey sets the amp sub level as close to 0db as you can (+ or - 12db indicates the gain is set to high or low for the setup). I have a 2808 and a BK Monolith (and an XLS200 DF in my conservatory ) and I did find that after doing the full 8 position setup, my bass seemed less boomy, but I got used to it an prefered it. However I discovered thay Audyssey can cause very low end boosting at about 10Hz that has actually damaged my speaker. Your '200 is sealed so shouldn't be effected by this issue though.

Re: BK XLS-200DF MKII + Denon 1909
I got an email off Tom (the designer?) today to say he's sending me a warranty replacement driver for my Monolith, so they are still around, just maybe busy?
Considering that my speaker was damaged partly because the 'Audyssey' EQ in my Denon amp added a big low end boost, then I think that was very good of BK to supply me with a new speaker. They want the damaged one back too so they can analyse it with a view to future improvements, so I think that is a good sign too.
Try using their web site 'contact' page to say what you want to buy. If you email them you might get filtered as spam (I had to use my work email to reply to Tom because of this). If you ring Olive (?) I'm sure she'd take an order over the phone as for my two purchases....but don't expect to have it by the end of this week.

It helps to get all of your crossovers/levels into the ballpark before running Audessey.

Crossovers get set by Audyssey regardless of where you put them before running setup. It is important to get the sub gain set so that Audyssey can set the level around 0db on the amp (-12 or +12 indicate that the sub is set to high/low respectively).
It's a long story, but in my room Audyssey wrongly applied 13db of boost at 10Hz compared to Audysset off and Monoliths don't like being overdriven below port frequency (18Hz IIRC). Some DVDs contain strong below 10Hz signals and that plus the boost did for my speaker.
I've just picked up a BFD this afternoon to help control the very low end from being overdriven.
Sorry for the OT, the XLS200 shouldn't be effected by this as it's sealed and will just naturally roll off these very low signals.

Re: BK XLS-200DF MKII + Denon 1909
They may be quite a small operation, but I prefer to deal with 'local' suppliers when I can. If you bought an equivalent sub to the XLS200 from REL or similar it would be a lot more money.
Audyssey is the room EQ system fitted to most current Denon, Onkyo and other amplifiers. It is set up with a previded mic to match the speaker levels and balance the speaker's EQ. Unfortunately in my setup it applied a boost very low down that I couldn't really hear, but it caused my sub to be overdriven and it bottomed out a few times and damaged the cone.

I ordered my xls 200 nearly 2 weeks ago. I have spoken to them 3 times and was getting a bit annoyed untill i spoke to a guy there and found out that they are actually making the sub at the moment. You cant order from stock. it seems that they actually manufacture the sub once you place the order. On monday my box was complete and was goign for finishing.
So i guess thats the reason for the wait
Cant wait to get mine

Re: BK XLS-200DF MKII + Denon 1909
I wonder why they dont keep so many in stock as built, all sounds good being built to order but can be slow turn around doing this, not even guranteed to get your sub before xmas if ordering now.

Its a crazy situation IMO....Ordered my high gloss version last week, will be pretty fed up if I dont get it by Christmas
Whats the best way to connect to my Arcam AVR 200 amp please? do I use just one phono from the twin supplied lead OR the "high end" plug at sub end wired across which speaker outlets??
Any clue how to set up a sub would be helpful as well.......

Re: BK XLS-200DF MKII + Denon 1909
I ordered my Walnut one over two weeks ago. Called last monday and was told that the box was made and was going for painting. It would definitely be dispatched by the end of the week. Called yesterday and was told that the box was made and was going for painting and that it would be dispatched by the end of this week. So basically nothing has happened in a week. I'm really not a happy bunny. You might expect this when buying a £100 sub but not when spending so much money.
Im having mine shipped internationally so ill be lucky to get in in time for christmas.
