Sharp HTDV40H faulty?

I have a problem which at first I thought would be easy to solve and have read this forum top to bottom and nothing fixes it.
I have a low level hum, only on the subwoofer, not present at 0 volume but from volume 1 up, the volume of the hum is consistant and does not seem to increase when I turn the volume up.
I have done all the usual, disconnected everything and even bought a 6-Way Mains Conditioner.
I have unplugged the subwoofer and plugged in another speaker and the same hum is there. The speakers are all bare wires into the sockets rather than phonos.
So am down to 2 possible fixes - can I filter the bare wires in some way?
Note the other speakers dont hum, or is it a fault on the amplifier that feeds the subwoofer only?
If so any one know what the fix is?
Am willing to try anything as I received this as a gift and dont want the embarrasement of going back to the person for a receipt etc.
Thanks in advance

Re: Sharp HTDV40H faulty?

how loud is this hum?
just so you know every speaker in the world will have a "hum" sort of sound when they have power to them. this is something that you cannot get rid of. so if it is a very low level hum i think it would be nothing to worry about.

however if it is quite loud then obviously something is wrong!

Re: Sharp HTDV40H faulty?

Its a hum that would get on your nerves if the volume is low, infact my wife asks me to unplug (remove the 2 wires) on the subwoofer when we are listening to the radio part of it as she likes it as background.
The subwoofer is passive so no power to it.
If we have a movie on and it drops to a point where there is no sound then you can here the hum, its always a constant volume so loud parts you cannot here it.
The 2 other speakers have no hum what so ever

Re: Sharp HTDV40H faulty?

I too have had the same low level hum with the system. I've returned it on 2 occasions. My 3rd system came yesterday & it is exactly the same. I hate using it now as it is so annoying. I've tried to email Sharp again but they are useless & never reply.
Next option is taking it back to the shop again, although they claim to have sold a lot of them without a problem. To watch it without noticing the hum I have to have it cranked up so loud it annoys the neighbours!!!

Any more luck with yours?

Robin

Re: Sharp HTDV40H faulty?

You will get a hum on poorly manufactured stereos and/or speakers, its due to the connections within the stereo and/or speakers.

The connections will be interfering with other connections and cabling within the product so thats why you get a slight hum.

For a stereo this expensive its suprising that it does hum, as you would expect more for paying out just over £200, see SHARP HTDV40H, the cheapest if over £200!

But to be perfectly honest, i wouldnt ever buy anything that was Sharp unless it was very good bargain. My favourite brands are Pioneer, LG & Sony.

Never had any problems with these brands,

Hope this helps.

Cheers.
