Re: bose question

Its not going to work. Its a commercial sound device not a domestic one.

First things first, its not a true sub, it's not even called that by Bose. They call it an acoustimass module and state its use is for bass augmentation. Its basically used as the midrange speaker and the small cubes are effectively the tweeter. Bose do things their own way though, and separate the different drivers so you can place the midrange drivers hidden away in the same way you would a true sub. It only uses 2 5.25" drivers inside the module and only goes down to 50hz.

This particular module requires an amplifier to run it, and is only compatible with Bose amps. This unit requires active equalization via the Bose 1b equalization card (which I think is onboard the Bose amps) and is only compatible with the Bose AmPlus or 1800 amplifier.

This module is basically a variation on the domestic acoustimass systems for use in commercial applications, like business environments or shops etc. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news

Re: bose question

I have some Bose 203 loudspeakers already , they use similar same sized drivers in a proper cabinet and need no active equalization. They will produce better bass than the Acoutimass modules if your looking to improve on your current Bose setup, and they are quite frankly fantastic for the money.

If your want a sub though, see below

£0-£100 - Connected Acoustics sub10
£200 - BK electronics Gemini 2
£200 - £500 - Look around the BK site at any of their models.

Hope that helps.

Re: bose question

Money is short so I'm wondering if I could attach the acoustimass cubes to that cheaper woofer?

i notice it has it's own amp, is it the only one I'd need? I'd just be putting a dvd/cd player through it and maybe the TV

Again thanks for the info

Re: bose question

Just carry on powering the cubes as you are now.

You add that sub into the system via phono leads from your amp. It should have a stereo auxiliary output at least, or a dedicated sub output at best. Use either of those to get a signal to the sub and it will power itself.

Once connected, any of the below subs will work just fine.
