Eltax Subwoofer cutting out

Hi,

I have a small problem I was hoping you might be able to help me with.

I have an Eltax subwoofer - I'm not sure of the model - but on the back is says model 1128 - I bought it many years ago. It is an active sub and I'd say looking at it that it's an 8inch (yeah I know that's crap) Got a Yamaha RX-V359 amp. I've set the sub-out to LFE (so not going to speakers). Not an amazing set-up I know, but it does the job ok for me.

Prob is though that the sub keeps cutting out. I can turn it on and it runs to good effect whilst there is LFE going through it. Problem is that when there is no signal to it, it seems to turn off and not come back on - the light stays on (is always red). If I switch the phase, then usually it'll come on again, but then as soon as signal is gone. Same thing happens again.

I am using a faily cheap cable - in fact I think it's a random video cable (yellow tips). Have ordered a better cable - could it be this or something else?

Just wondeing if anyone has any ideas before i have to buy a new sub (am thinking of the SW150 anyway.....but needs to wait until I have funds! lol)

Cheers

Re: Eltax Subwoofer cutting out

As some additional information, the sub also pops every time I change the input on the amp.

Any ideas anyone? Please help!

Re: Eltax Subwoofer cutting out

hi mate

does it have different power modes??
like on, off and auto??

have a look on the back panel

if it has, then put it to 'on', it may be on 'auto'

if in 'auto' it only emits sound when it recieves a signal

leave it on the 'on' setting (if it has the option)

this should cure it, if it dont have an auto setting then it could be something like your connection, put it in the left channel phono on the back, also on your amp, set your crossover to about 80hz

Re: Eltax Subwoofer cutting out

Hi Mark,

Thanks for the reply.

Doesn't have 3 settings - only on or off so am assuming that on is auto (since it's turning itself off alright - just not back on).

Also doesn't have left and right phono input - only single sub input (i.e for a sub out mono) which I am using. Crossover is set to 100hz so could try at 80 - not sure if I can set this crossover on the amp though - I have looked in the manual but don't seem to be able to find any way of setting this. Really bugging me! lol

Re: Eltax Subwoofer cutting out

ok, try this

turn the volume down on your sub first(back of sub)

now go into your av amp's menu's

now turn up the sub output in the menu to max(on your amp)

adjust sub volume on your sub(back of sub)to suit
