Question Upgrade From BK Gemini - Dimensions Critical - Advice Please

Denon AVR-1909
B&W M1's
BK Gemini (Mk1)

I am looking to upgrade my sub.

Size is critical as it has to be placed behind the plasma in the same area currently occupued by my faithful BK Gemini (which I will advertise on here in due course).

The room is fairly large, roughly 7m x 7m with a 2.5m ceiling.

Main use is Blu-Ray/Sky HD related.

Originally, I was considering a PV-1 to match in with my lovely M1's but my BK brand loyalty has pointed me in the direction of the much more sensibly-priced XLS-200 or the XLS-300. Anything else out there worth considering, new or used?

They both represent the maximum dimensions. I can't really fit anything else in so don't dangle a Monolith under my nose

Any advice appreciated.

Re: Upgrade From BK Gemini - Dimensions Critical - Advice Please

BK 400 = Dimensions:400D x 460H x 400W

BK 300 = Dimensions:380D X 350H x 400W

Bk 200 = Dimensions:390D x 295H x 295W Forward Firing
BK 200 = Dimensions:340D x 355H x 290W Downward Firing

Gemini = Dimensions:315D x 355H x 290W Mk2 Version

You can see from the above the Mk2 Gemini is nearest in size to a BK200 DF where the 400 is 60mm deeper 105mm higher and 110mm wider, depends what space you have.

maybe the BK 200 would have in what your lacking in the Gemini ? if size is the restraint ?

Thanks for that, I think I'll do a quick re-measure and see if I can squeeze in a 400. I wonder if BK are back-ordered until this side of Christmas.

Re: Upgrade From BK Gemini - Dimensions Critical - Advice Please

I have just cut out the various sizes on paper and the 400 is considerably larger than the Gemini whilst the 200 is more or less the same.

Does anyone know if there a massive difference between the 400 and 300 in terms of performance?

Difference between the 300 and the 400 i would say yes, but i think the difference between the Gemini you have now and the BK 200 would be a bigger jump in performance.

i have a BK 200 on order and they said 2 weeks from last mondays order

Re: Upgrade From BK Gemini - Dimensions Critical - Advice Please

Short of taking a jig saw to my kit I'm going to have a real struggle getting a 400 to fit. I hate slescting equipment based on size but should I go for the 200 or 300 now? I'm still confused

Re: Upgrade From BK Gemini - Dimensions Critical - Advice Please

Hmm. I've been looking at a SVS PC12-NSD as I reckon that the circular shape will fit snugly behind my plasma and give me the all-important volume (and volume) I am lacking

Anyone recently got one of these and would this integrate with my B&W M1's okay?

Re: Upgrade From BK Gemini - Dimensions Critical - Advice Please

Its a sub surely any half decent sub will do the job of integrating with anything. I would'nt worry about that. Setting it up might be a different issue. I also essentially have one place that my sub can go and I had a bit of a job getting the thing matched with my other 5 speakers in terms of my seating position. I ended up with the gain at 2/3 to get my SPL meter readings right, even then at low volumes I think the sub is over powering the other channels. I guess the thing to do is buy it and see how you go! If you're happy thats all that matters.

Re: Upgrade From BK Gemini - Dimensions Critical - Advice Please

Thanks eaglemoomin. I'll run Audyssey and see what it throws up first but by the sounds of it I'll be breaking out the SPL meter. double checked for size (with a cut-out template) last night and it looks like the SVS is a go
