Reccomend a sub to go with my kit...

Ok, i have the following...

1 x Pioneer VSX1019 Amp

1 x pair of Mordaunt short 916 floorstanders

1 x center Mordaunt Short 905i center

1 x pair of bookshelf rears

1 x dodgy old sony sub that ive had for donkeys.....

so looking to replace my sub with something that is both very night and tight in terms of bass but also aesthetiscally(sp) pleasing... I did quite fancy the Alumni 9 but stock seems to be dwindling and i was wondering if there is something new out there i should look at.... budget is around £200...

thanks in advance...

For £200 you will not go far wrong by getting the BK Gemini II. This gives good value for money and will be a significant improvement over your current one. Others to look at would be the Warfedale Diamond 9 subs that are currently being sold at a heavy discount.

I used to have a Tannoy Msub 10 which was a front firing 10" sealed sub. Not sure if Tannoy still do an equivalent model. Worked very well in my system for many years. Gave a nice controled sound and could be good for your needs. However, not sure FF or DF makes that much difference in terms of direction the bass will go in and hence annoyance of neighbours.

Bass is non directional so should make no real difference if downfiring or forward firing.

Glad I did not answer this thread earlier as you have definitely not bought mine.

On a lighter note you will not regret getting a Monolith, and that's a promise.

Re: Reccomend a sub to go with my kit...

get two squash balls, cut them in half, get a nice slab of granite or paving slab, glue the squash ball halves to the bottom of the slab(in each corner) then put that on the floor where your sub is going,(squash balls down) then place your sub on this, will isolate it from the floor and will make your sub sound better

it aint foolproof but it should improve matters no end, plus it can be done cheaply
