Re: My Monolith REW graph

Help with what?

Doesn't look bad at the bottom, but it drops off some above 40 doesn't it?
I'm not saying that's bad though. I'd expect it's better for action movies than general telly.

Depends how your speakers interact, but if you're running an 80hz crossover, you might want to try lowering it.

Re: My Monolith REW graph

help with what? good question. i have no idea

the graph i posted is the sub on it's own, i disconnected the main speakers. i have my crossovers set to 80 on the onk 875

i guess i really wanted to know if that was an acceptable response from my monolith

Bung a BFD into the mix with quite a broad cut at 35hz and Bob's yer uncle.

If not, it would probably be great for films, as it is, with plenty of bottom end welly.

Might be a bit heavy for music.

Yes, it looks fine at the bottom end

I realise that's sub only, which is why I mentioned speaker integration.

I'd run another sweep now with the speakers, to see what you get.
I'm guessing you'll see a fair dip in the 40-70 area. There's a lot of info to be had there, which is why I think letting your speakers do a bit more might be of benefit.

But as Nimby suggests, you have a good case for using a BFD, as you could cut the bottom to suit

The main point is you've got decent bottom end, so you've got options

Re: My Monolith REW graph

good good, i have a dedicated room thats just for films and PS3 gaming duties, so no music.

i'll have a think about a BFD, any other suggestions or should i leave it as it is.

i'd quite like to know what i'm looking at, to be honest it makes no sense to me, if someone would be good enough to break it down for me so i understand it a little it'd be much appreciated

Blimey, there's every chance you don't have to do anything then

How to explain it?

Hmm, well basically the blue line is the one you're aiming for, for a flat response that is.
Your response, the green line, does track it pretty well, but as you can see it rises fairly rapidly below 40hz. Whilst it's not ideal for music (because it'll sound one-noted and too deep) it's ideal for anything with a boom crash bang type soundtrack, because all the noisy effects will be enhanced
Not necessarily 100% accurate, but bloody good fun

So in your case, I don't think I'd do anything at all, which is a bonus.

I'd still like to see a curve of everything running though, just out of interest.

The point I suppose is, if you're happy with how it sounds, leave well alone

Re: My Monolith REW graph

Mine also had a massive dip after I ran mains + sub together.

I levelled it out by removing the cut filters I had on the BFD at that frequency, so they both levelled out nicely. honestly don't know if that's correct or why (constructive interference ) but the graph looked nice.

Have a read up on the american forum where there are in depth guides to house curves. I still haven't got it all or sure if I have even done it correctly, but when I posted over there the guys said an awful lot I followed from their guides was a little old and the wrong way of doing it.

Just been enjoying films since rather than tweaking

Re: My Monolith REW graph

the above graph with the front speakers connected is without smoothing if that makes any difference.

Ad- i had a little read on the american site and to be quiet honest i got completely lost. think i've had too many beers to be messing around with this.
i'll have another look and see what i can come up with
