XXLS400 - a saviour or recipe for confusion?

So theyve now gone and added a XXLS400 to their already brilliant collection of subs. Why o' why...

More confusion for those who couldnt make up their mind.

Re: XXLS400 - a saviour or disaster for confusion

Hold on . . . . . . . . . . brb

EDIT:

Hmm very interesting, I can definitely see a market for it, Ive seen a few people pulling a face at the PR design of the 300. Th big question though, for £20 why not have a Monolith. I know its a size thing but in honesty the Monolith isnt as big as some make out. I bet its very good with music though, like equal to the Monolith, with just a slight constraint on depth and ultimate spl levels.

It'll be very interesting to see what the experts make of this.

I can't wait for a review on this.
I'd actually guess it might be better than the Monolith for music.
Different driver too, I think?

Because not everybody wants (or needs) 100dB @ 20Hz performance, but find that the naturally sloping response of a sealed sub, combined with their naturally low group delay will be an easier room integration proposition and be exactly what they want for music.

I look forward to seeing what effect the LRC and the gentle EQ lift toward the bottom end do.

Re: XXLS400 - a saviour or recipe for confusion?

looks good but hardly a xls 200 replacement at 50 ltrs its a lot bigger and even a fair bit bigger than the 300pr but about half of the monolith so maybe an alternative to the monolith or the xls 300pr, would like to hear one of these.

Re: XXLS400 - a saviour or recipe for confusion?

I think thats the idea I was more than happy to pay Monolith money was just to big for my room

Hopefully it will give say 95% of the monlith's performance in a more compact unit!

Who wants my XLS200 lol

Re: XXLS400 - a saviour or recipe for confusion?

Hmm I would have been tempted with this had I not gone for a SVS SB12-Plus last month! The XXL bit , one can only imagine BK want to get across the extra size, like an XXL sized shirt

I think all BK subs are brilliant for the price tag, I have complete faith in their

products, an I'm very eager to read any future reviews on this one, although

I doubt I'd ever part with my Monolith...( I think )

I agree with Moonfly, if space is not going to be an issue, why not get the monolith. I've been keeping a very close eye on the XLS200 v Monolith discussions and am totally sold on the Monolith, just need one more pay packet !!

Look forward to the reviews of the 400!

Re: XXLS400 - a saviour or recipe for confusion?

Its got a 12" driver not sure if its the same driver as the Monolith though.

My understanding of subs is that this one should be pretty good because of the size of the driver and also the size of the box. It wont go as deep or as loud as a Monolith but my guess would be that to the untrained ear it will be pretty much on par with the Monolith. I think, someone will probably prove me wrong here

I tend to have complete faith after I see a few reviews or get to have a listen . They did produce at least one sub in the last few years that was a disapointment, so even masters such as BK can get it wrong on occasion, although to their credit they did drop it pretty quickly IIRC.

I certainly look forward to the obligatory quality Forum review and a listen if I get any offers

I'm real glad I got the SVS, the tiny thing has blown both my friends and me away, allowing my to hear stuff I probably wasn't able to get before!

The XXL400 might have been tempting given the slight price advantage, but that's about it I think. They seem quite similar on paper, would be interesting to see a comparison of the two. I hope the SB12-Plus still edges it, even if it has been out over a couple of years now.

Re: XXLS400 - a saviour or recipe for confusion?

It uses Peerless' Xtra Xtra Long Stroke 12" driver...
Whereas the Monolith uses the standard Xtra Long Stroke 12".

More excursion!

I was about to bite the bullet on a 300PR, not so sure now

Re: XXLS400 - a saviour or recipe for confusion?

Some people have said the XLS300 is on a par with the sb12+ so I would hope the XXLS400 takes it to a new level!

Many will be praying for close to Monolith perfomance pretty

Actually the Monolith uses an Audiodrive SB12-300. The only XLS Series driver is the XLS-10 as used in the XLS-200 and XLS-300/PR.

I'd wait and see what the XLS-400 stacks up like. With that driver, that box volume and that power, it stands a good chance of significantly more output, although it ain't goin g to rival a Monolith for movies. It is however quite a lot larger than an XLS-300. An 18" cube doesnt sound a lot bigger that a 14" cube, but it will certainly look it.

Re: XXLS400 - a saviour or recipe for confusion?

On BK's site it says 40x40cm which I think is closer to a 14 inch cube than an 18inch

I have had the tape measure next to my XLS200 & yes its bigger but still fairly compact looks a similar size to the sb12+

40cm by 40cm would be nearly a 16" cube...

The bigger they are the more attractive the lamp stand.

You only need to start worrying when the dog thinks its an indoor lamppost.
