Logitech Squeezebox Duet

Hi Everybody.

I currently have a Russound CAV6.6 which is a centralised amp with speakers in each room up to 6 zones. Which works great although my sky box I was using as a DAB radio has just packed up. I already have a media centre with all the music on it.

I am looking at either the Sonos or the Logitech Squeezebox Duet with 2 receivers to add some MP3 and radio functionality.

As to budget constrains and the fact that I already have a lot of the multi room functionality with the Russound I have chosen the Logitech Squeezebox Duet.

Due to the Russound being centrally located in my loft room. The Logitech Squeezebox Duet would have to be plugged into the Russound with the controller downstairs.

Does anybody know what the range of the controller and whether the controller still works through block walls downstairs.

Your help would be most appreciated.

Many thanks in anticipation.

The controller connects to your server via Wifi, the server then pushes music to the SB player (in your case the Receiver, but it could be any SB device).
So it depends on your WiFi cover, which is easy to 'enhance' in dead spots.

If your media centre PC is already connected to your Russound, you could simply load a software player on it (along with the Squeezebox server software), and control via Ipeng which is an Iphone Ipod touch app, or set up a reciever via NET:UDAP (a way of using the recever without the controller).

I'd consider the Ipeng route as its reportedly a better way of controlling anyways. I use Ipeng on Iphone and touch as my preferred means of interacting with my Squeezeclan.

I have the Duet and use the controller via the receiver's own WiFi (i.e. I do not have a WiFi router and the receiver is [sort of] hard wired via homeplugs) and can use it anywhere in my house with no dead spots.

I stand corrected then Headbanger, I use SB3s and Booms, and these have no such 'transmision' capability. Thanks for keeping me right.

So how is the range on the Receiver, to answer the OP's original query?

OK – I’ll try! My house is rectangular approx 40ft by 30ft and the receiver sits right in a the corner at the garden end. There are no dead spots in the house upstairs or downstairs (walls are a mixture of brick and stud). However, I can get the connection to die by taking it outside where it’s OK until I’m about 35-40ft away from the house where it becomes flakey and it completely dies at around 40-45ft.

The SB3, Transporter and Receiver can act as wi-fi bridges, so devices(s) wired to them can then access a wi-fi network.

The Receiver also has a wi-fi access point capability, to allow Controllers to connect. I doubt the Receiver can be bridge and access point at the same time!
