New Squeezebox Jive remote on it's way to me...
Thought it was not going to happen, but i just got confirmation that UPS are shipping my Jive remote. It's not available to purchase just yet, i will be Beta testing it and probably have to return it (EDIT: No, mine to keep). But i will give a full report on here as i know there are a lot of keen Squeezebox owners on here
What am i on about? Jive is a new platform for building very cool remotes for the Squeezebox product family. I believe they also act as players too and they have 3.5mm headphone sockets, even connect directly to the Squeezenetwork. See here - http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=34943

Good looking remote!
Does the internet connection mean that the Jive can pick up its album/artwork info. from a web site? Or do you have to have captured all that stuff in the same folder as the music files..?

The final remotes will no doubt be slicker, thats just test hardware really. It's the software running on it thats so cool. There is also talk of integration with the Harmony remotes. i think

Well it's just arrived and it very nice, the interface is rather iPod like, but is a good clean simple way. Looking good, even has Flickr integration for the wallpaper!

Re: New Squeezebox Jive remote on it's way to me...
This looks good. And also reopens that Sonos v's squeezebox can of worms.
Any idea how when it will be available to Joe public and more importantly any idea on what it will cost?

The Jive solution is built on all open source/GPL products, so the community should be able to be port it to any h/w platform that can handle TCP/IP. So a PDA or a phone with wi-fi will be able to run Jive, not just the Slimdevices remote. Jive on the ipod touch would (will?) be pretty kewl

Re: New Squeezebox Jive remote on it's way to me...
Well it's very much a prototype. As a proof of concept its great, but it's bug city. But each firmware update getting better and better

Re: New Squeezebox Jive remote on it's way to me...
Any more developments/rumours on this at all? As a result of, shall we say a technical hitch, my SB3 trial will now be somewhat delayed. The result being a re-pondering of do I just lump it and "shall I order a Sonos instead".
There is just something about the SB3 that appeals though. I'll likely end up with both!!!! A Sonos style remote would certainly be another swayer (the need for the SB3 to use the PC wireless net and what seems like a slight more dodgy or hit/miss with setting up a NAS with an SB3 being my other two). Not to go there in this thread mind
Addendum: Delay likely to be a lot less. Just ordered from Ripcaster.

Re: New Squeezebox Jive remote on it's way to me...
Distance selling regulations give you minimum of 7 days (maybe more), some places give you more - 14 days with Amazon i think, although i have sent stuff back nearly a month later and got a refund.
So order both, and keep you favourite.
