Wireless music network without a computer?

I want to set up a network where my mp3 collection is available round the house by wireless. Currently it's all on an external hard drive.

All the devices I have found seem to require a computer to deliver the music. Surely this is not necessary?

Sorry if it's a basic question, but I can't find a good beginner's guide or an answer in previous threads. Anyone got a link?

Re: Wireless music network without a computer?

If you have a NAS drive connected to your router, a Sonos will be able to read from it. Or use a NAS with Slimserver installed and you can use the Squeezebox 3.

You don't even need a router, all you need is a NAS drive and a Sonos Zoneplayer wired to it. All the other zoneplayers can be wireless.

absolutly... I use a thecus NAS box (which has an itunes server embedded), and stream to several Roku soundbridges around the house (did this before the days of sonos) - Cheep, and effective solution.

I forgot about the Roku. As you say, offers a good cheap(ish) solution. Just out of interest (and sorry to hijack the thread) what's the Thecus NAS like?
