Re: Wireless music network without a computer
If you simply want to be able to access the files from computers you need a Network Attached Storage device or NAS connected to a wireless access point.
If you want to play back without using computers you'll need a NAS (with the music on it) in some cases with some software loaded to server those files and compatible music/video players.
At the high end Sonus and Squeezbox are well liked around here.
Philips Streamium do a completely stand alone system with HiFi's extra zone players and even an alarm clock.
I believe you can also do this with the PS3, xbox and xbox360
Search on "sonus", "Squeezebox", "Streamium", "MP101" and "ROKU" and you will find lots of options.
I use TwonkyMedia running on an old very low power PC and Netgear MP101 players - but there are better options available for more money.
