Streaming Music to Bathroom - Dangers?

Hi Guys,

I am renovating and extending my house and the electrician is about to start wiring it next week. Basically we are running Cat 6 all around the house and creating a home network with a central media server.

In my new kitchen/living/dining area I will be using a Mac Mini to steam music off this central server and I will be doing something similar for my bedroom.

However, I want to wire the bathroom up with speakers and be able to stream music and internet radio to it. My initial plan was to use a Squeezebox in the bathroom but then common sesne kicked in and I thought of the dangerous of water and electricity!

Does anyone have any suggestions of how I could stream and control music/radio within a bathroom? I will be installing ceiling speakers.

Thanks!

Hello mate. This thread might be of use to you - IPod in my bathroom

There has also been some discussion on bathroom installation projects on the Slimdevices (Squeezebox) forum.

Good luck, let us know how you get on

Re: Streaming Music to Bathroom - Dangers?

The easiest thing to do is just run some speaker cable up into the loft from an amp located in the room next to the bathroom. Attach the cable to some water proof speakers (ceiling or wall mounted) and off you go.

I have mine attached to a Sonos, and use a speaker switch so I can use the Sonos in the bathroom or office, but it would work just as well with a SB3.

Or use some battery powered wireless speakers.
