buying a squeezebox from the states

Hi folks

If I buy a SB from the states, will I have any problems with the power supply? Is it a moulded plug, or is it like a laptop when you can just change the power cable and the power supply deals with the voltage?

thanks

No, you can use a converter or change the power cord/plug.

Just out of interest, why are you buying from the states? It might be cheaper, even with the postage, but import duty will end up costing you more than it would to buy in the UK. I almost bought from US, but everyone on the SD forums siad not to. Got it from www.scan.co.uk in the end. Thats why most people don't buy stuff off US sites from the UK.

If you buy a SB from Slim Devices, they'll ensure the correct power adaptor is packed.

However, as stated by Autopilot, you're better off buying in the UK. I bought my all-black SB v3 from Slim Devices but ONLY because I wanted it in time for Xmas. I couldn't get hold of one in the UK at the time, but it did cost me more once the import duty, VAT and UPS/DHL? admin charges were taken into account.

Re: buying a squeezebox from the states

Thanks for the advice guys. I may be extremely lucky, but with all the electronics that I've bought from the States, I've only been hit by duty charges once (out of about 6 times) and that was because the parcel was sent via UPS, who always charge duty. It's just a case of seeing who is selling, what their international service is like etc etc. Failing that, I have a friend in NY who can post things on to me. Sometimes the effort of tracking things down is worth it, sometimes not. To be honest, I haven't started comparing prices yet - I wanted to check whether it was even worth me doing that. The SB looks like a nice piece of kit, but it is a little expensive for what I want, if I can find it a bit cheaper, I may be able to twist my arm a bit more

Re: buying a squeezebox from the states

From the Slim Devices website:

We ship worldwide using United Parcel Service.

* Special FREE Ground Shipping within the continental US on Squeezebox and Transporter orders. (Infrant bundle excluded.)
* Orders received by noon PST usually ship the same day
* UPS cannot deliver to PO boxes or APO addresses
* Domestic Transporter shipments will be sent signature required
* International customers will be asked by UPS to pay VAT and duty. Learn more...

You have been warned!! I've bought in the UK and it has worked well, especially reassuring in case you need to do a return.
