Is Anybody Using Sonos on Ethernet via Mains?

I'm investigating wireless streaming options and I'm drawn to Squeezebox and Sonos. My budget may struggle with the Sonos, but THAT REMOTE
Anyway, I wondered if anybody is getting around the requirement to have the first Zone Player hard-wired to their LAN by using one of the ethernet over mains cable options, and if this is reliable. I'd be storing the music on a NAS hardwired to the router. I'm not keen to use the wireless bridge option as wi-fi is a little patchy in my house, and I don't really want to place a ZP80 in the computer room (where the router lives) as it won't be used apart from as a bridging device.
Many Thanks!

Re: Is Anybody Using Sonos on Ethernet via Mains?

I don't use it in that format as I have a ZP100 in the computer room with my PC plugged into the line in, and also serving speakers in the bath room next door.

However, I have tried it out with the Netgear HD ones for max bandwidth, and it worked fine. Obviously it's an 'unsupported' set up, so any problems can be a bit difficult to work out, however, Sonos and their forums are still pretty good at resolving issues.

Thing with the Sonos is that it sets up it's own MESH network, so the more active ZP's the stronger the signal. How many are you planning to run?

I've never had any drop outs with mine (except when listening to internet radio, but that's the fault of the radio stream reaching their max. number of listeners, rather than the Sonos).

Re: Is Anybody Using Sonos on Ethernet via Mains?

Thanks for the reply. I'm thinking about 3 players downstairs, and one upstairs, with my router & NAS being in the computer room (also upstairs). The house is fairly new; there are mainly stud/partition walls internally, so hopefully not too much of a problem with the wireless signalling between the units.

Nope. That should all be fine.

Why not run ethernet cable from your router to the first ZP - that's what I did....
I drilled a hole in the study wall, ran the cable round the house and drilled a whole in the living room.
Easilly as tidy as any sky or cable intallation I've had done.
