Dead Spots on my CR200 controllers

Just wondered if anyone else has had this issue?

Both of my sonos controllers within a couple of months of each other have developed dead patches on the touch screen area. They are now both unusable as they are at the top and bottom where u press 'select album' and 'add to queue' etc.

In fact yesterday the controller downstairs came on by itself and switched the radio on in the bedroom, and no it wasn't a scheduled alarm.

Anyway, I've emailed sonos so I guess they'll go off for repair. Anyone else had this problem?

I have had a clients CR200 do the turny on by itself thing.

I think it is battery related and as the battery dies it thinks it is being touched.

Would be interested to hear the response from Sonos.

Sonos will offer a warranty exchange where you can either ship the faulty unit to them and they ship a replacement on receipt, or give them credit card details for an advance replacement which is only charged if you do not return the faulty item with 14 days.

Sadly it's a very common fault. There's a very large thread about it on Sonos's own forums see here

Thanks for the link John. It does seem to be a very common problem, theres loads of people with the same issue. I bought my controllers about a year apart so its unlikely to be a bad batch problem. Anyway, I'll call sonos tomorrow and send them back.

So Sonos have come back, one of my controllers in under warranty so it will be replaced free of charge once they receive the old one.

The other is out of warranty, so that will cost me £94 to get it fixed. That's pretty annoying for a known issue. I wonder if there is anything I can do, at least have the warranty reset for the new one. Don't really want to pay if it is likely to go wrong again.

IS that for the Dead Spots on the Controller or the random control issue as the battery dies?

They both have the dead spots issue, but one also has the random control issue.

It might be worth posting on the thread in the Sonos forums and expressing your feelings about this situation.

Just got 2 new cr200 through in the post. Although said they wanted £94 to replace the out of warranty one, they never actually charged me so that was a result. Both new ones work fine, and fingers crossed will stay that way. Using my Android is ok but when the phone rings and u just want to press mute, I've normally missed the call by the time I've located mute on the Android. It's just not quite as good as a dedicated controller.

One other thing. They asked not to send the cradles or power supplies back with the faulty controllers, but sent me 2 new sets. Do these also extend the mesh network range or solely charge the units? If only the latter i'll put them on eBay.

The cradles are just for charging.

Well, what do you know. 8 months later and they've got dead spots again. Not quite unusable yet, but getting there. Don't see how this can be a bad batch issue now, these ones sent out were brand new.

Will be interesting to see if they have a new warranty or not. The other thing is sonos announced a while back that they won't be making these anymore. I wonder if that is related to this issue? Also wonder if it affects the warranty exchange?

Oh well, back to sonos I go!
