ah, that's not going to work then. I would find one of the files not found by the touch, right click, see properties (I think) then see that is not marked as hidden, or something unusual. Compare those settings to the ones on the files that do appear.
Next thing would be to check the scanner log for errors. Have a go at that mate.

or if it makes sense, open the server UI, click on settings on the bottom right, then on the information tab, at the bottom, there should be a "scanner log file" link. Open that and that's your scanner log file.
Remember you might need to increase the amount of output to the log on the "advanced" tab , "logging" from the drop down.
Also, once you have added songs to your library, you need to perform a scan so the software knows about them by going to "basic" tab -> rescan with "look for new and changed media files".
got to go now, I'll check the thread tomorrow.

yes, I have a music top directory, under it I have one subdirectory for every band/artist, then under it, a subdirectory for each album, then the song files inside.
The most important element is the album tags though.

Download MP3Tag to check between albums that are visible & those that aren't.

Yes, I meant to write a bit more. Like Crocodile says, if your file doesn't have a tag that the server can index and show, it will not "appear". However, if you browse the "music folder", it should appear there, as what is lists is the physical files, as opposed to the tags.

One thing noted on the site is that the display being switched off is one of the biggest changes apparently. I bought one for the kitchen/wife/kids and the other is going into my rack so no screen needed on that one luckily for me.

I'll let you know if I can tell the difference. I also bought a linear PSU from Mark Grant I will be comparing later.

I am starting to get a bit hooked on the Touch modding business, upgraded clock next lol.

Hi Adam. Thanks for that. Will be interested to read your feedback on the back to back testing. I've installed the Toolbox now, and re-enabled the screen and the IR, which probably means I'm not getting much benefit, but it was so easy to install and tweak I don't really mind.

I actually only got interested in the Touch because I received a free membership to B&W's Society of Sound when I bought my CM9s and CMC2, which gave me access to 24bit downloads. Knowing the SB3 would downsample those was frustrating, so that, coupled with a good price ($290, approx £180), persuaded me to buy.

I'm not going to be opening mine up for modding. I've no idea where I'd get that done in Australia anyway! I've read so many contrasting and totally opposite views on the PSU upgrades for the Squeezeboxes that it's hard to know if it would be noticeable. Once again though the location down under limits availability, which is probably a good thing since I've only just bought the new B&Ws .

Just came to my squeezebox touch this morning and it had turned itself completely off. Thankfully after unplugging / plugging back in again it came on.

Is there any reason it would have done this?

I recently setup the LMS on my laptop and I had shutdown my laptop lastnight, is there a setting in the server that turns the Touch off when shutdown?

Not so much a setting, as that is the default behaviour. If there isn't a server to connect to, then the SBs "turn off".

In my experience they freeze from time to time and become unresponsive/turn themselves off. A reboot
Like you said fixes things. Not sure why this happens but it does.

I fairly frequently find my Touch on it's Now Playing screensaver, indicating that it's awoken from standby all on it's own. I generally find that when this happens the Now Playing screen info has also reset to default.

I must admit that I've never found any of these strange behaviours. I use a touch and a duet, both controlled with the duet's controller. The only oddity is when the server software has been updated on my nas, and there might be a need for a reboot to make it be discoverable.

Well I only really listened for an hour as I have been pretty busy, switching back and forth, sometimes quickly sometimes after a few minutes and if there was a difference I couldn't hear it. I haven't tried the PSU yet but am not optimistic abut hearing anything after my experiences so far.

The annoying thing is you start wondering, are my speakers not good enough to resolve the differences or does my DAC just do a really good job of cleaning up any 'noise/errors'? So far I have compared Duet to stock Touch and then to TT3 Touch and can't tell which is which.

Maybe I need longer or different music or maybe I need to stop worrying about minutiae and save some money

Adam

I have recently purchased a squeezebox which is connected to my PC in the loft wired via a homeplug (sound quality seems superb - cannot tell any difference from my cyrus CD player - very pleased with it so far).

Despite many internet searches I just cannot work out how to get wake-on-LAN (WOL) to work and find it a pain to have to go up to the loft to wake my computer from sleep manually.

The PC certainly seems to allow WOL (settings seem ok as far as I can tell)
I have virgin superhub router if that makes a difference.
I understand there is no need to turn WOL at the squeezebox end as it is always on automatically.

Any help with what I can do to get WOL working would be appreciated

As long as remain connected to a local server, SB will send a magic packet when you wake it from standby. This won't happen if you last connected to MvSB.com.

If you have a smartphone or tablet there are apps to send magic packets. May be worth trying one of these just to prove there's nothing wrong with the SB.

You could also try connecting the SB directly to the router temporarily just to prove there's nothing odd going on with the homeplugs.

Thanks for the suggestions but after further researh it seems that my motherboard (AMD Athlon II X2 215) does not support WOL......shame and a surprise as pc is fairly new

Despite the network card allowing me to tick the necessary boxes (using windows 7) when I eventually worked out how to look at the BIOS (hold delete on start up) there was no option under power management to allow WOL

I attach the link that seems to confirm this in case it helps anyone else:

Have you tried upgrading the BIOS? Maybe it was added in an update.

You seem to have listed your CPU rather than your motherboard.

Edit
If you have the Asus board listed in that thread then it seems the only option may be an additional PCI lan card.

I had the same problem with my NAS. I needed to add a pci nic with a rather specific chip due to FreeBSD ropy WOL support. Sourced it second hand from ebay for about £6. So, it might be possible to rescue the situation.

Finally in a position to go ahead and purchase a Touch, but don't want to pay over the odds. They have been on sale for £200 or less. Does anyone know if I can still get one for this price?

Amazon price goes up and down all the time, was as cheap as £165 last month but it never stays long so you have to act quick. If you don't mind waiting a site such as the one linked tracks the price of products on Amazon for you.

I paid £135 for it from Amazon just before XMas. If it drops back to that I'll go for another if I'm quick enough.

I've just had Virgin wireless installed using the new super hub, my mobile connects via the wireless signal but the touch won't.

It scans and finds the wireless connection but after typing the password it show a screen with a message 'We were unable to connect using the above password', the password displayed is correct for the router.

I've read through the user guide and it mentions things about ASCII format hex converters, this is really beyond me and I don't understand it.

I've also added the touch MAC address into the router setting, however the router is set to accept all.

Any ideas why it won't connect even though I'm using the correct wireless password and the mobile phone connects fine?

PG.
