EAC query re bmg copy control CD

In preparation for getting a SB Touch I am busily ripping all my CDs to FLAC using EAC. A few of these (eg ZZ Top Mescalero, Zero 7 When it falls and The Diary of Alicia Keys) have this BMG copy control which slows EAC down to 0.1x ripping speed - takes between 3 and 6 hours for these discs.

Unsurprisingly accurate rip is unable to verify these.

Am I wasting my time on these and does anyone know if there were later releases without this stuff on them?

Cheers
Rob

Re: EAC query re bmg copy control CD

I have the same problems with Hotel by Moby, Demon Days by Gorillaz & The Soul Sessions by Joss Stone. Very frustrating!!

Re: EAC query re bmg copy control CD

At least it is not just me being stupid this time

That is odd though - I have got a copy of Soul Sessions that went straight through no problem. That and LFC-SL's copy of the diary of alicia keys suggests there are other pressings without this bmg stuff on. Don't really want to buy another copy of the same discs though!!!

Cheers

Re: EAC query re bmg copy control CD

The Sony BMG copy protection was abandoned a few years ago and so there are indeed more recent pressings that do not have the copy protection on board. I was in HMV on Oxford Street a few weeks back checking precisely that. Like you though I didn't feel I should have to fork out for another copy.

Not sure about EAC but dbPoweramp has a "intentionally broken" read mode. Is there a non-error checking mode in EAC that you could use ?

Re: EAC query re bmg copy control CD

There is yes. It's not that you can't rip these CDs, it's that it takes a long time, and there is no opportunity to get the tracks AccurateRip certified.
