Re: Ipeng.....iphone..squeezebox

Yes. So long as your music doesn't have Apple's DRM and that the NAS can run Squeezebox Sever. (Or you wait and buy the Squeezebox Touch and connect a standard USB disk to it).

Yes. Unless, of course, it has DRM... Get rid of the DRM, it sucks anyway, although I admit that Apple additional charges are hefty. Do you have a lot of that old stuff?

Apple will not let you stream from the device. Probably has to do with the DRM :-(
The one way to do this to get a A2DP receiver and connect it to your iPod through Bluetooth. Not the best quality but at least some music.

Re: Ipeng.....iphone..squeezebox

Morning,

Not totally sure whether or not you can stream from the iPhone. The link below looks at the Chordette Gem (circa £399 IIRC) which works on Bluetooth and USB.

NEWS: Sumiko Announces Chordette GEM—Combo USB/Bluetooth DAC | AVguide

"Interestingly, the Chordette GEM can receive digital audio streams from Apple’s iPhone 3g and 3GS and the 2nd-generation iPod Touch—capabilities made possible by Apple’s recent release 3.0 software. The Sumiko release adds that, “even the earliest generations of the iPod Nano, Classic, and Touch can be used with the GEM simply by adding a Bluetooth adapter (available separately)."

Maybe this might be a solution rather than going down Squeeze route.

I hope this helps.

Anthony

Re: Ipeng.....iphone..squeezebox

OK, you can of course use A2DP over Bluetooth if you don't care too much about quality.

Re: Ipeng.....iphone..squeezebox

I didn't refer to that unit, don't know it and what it does.
But iPhone does support A2DP over Bluetooth (does iPod touch have Bluetooth at all, btw?).
The issue with A2DP is that it's codecs are actually not the best ones (at least the ones used most often) plus you convert from one lossy format to another one which isn't really the best idea.
