Can Sonos play 'Key 103' radio station in Manchester?

Hi Guys,

Will be investing in a Sonos Multi-Room audio system soon and wondered if any existing Sonos users could tell me if it's possible for it to pick up the Manchester radio station Key 103 using either the hand held controller or via the free iphone app.

I know it plays interet radio stations but don't know if this particular station is one of those that are listed.

Many thanks,

And just for clarification it doesn't matter if your using a CR200, CR100, iPod Touch/Phone or the MAC/PC desktop controller to 'control' your Zone Player(s) - the control method has no effect on what Radio Station's you can/cant receive.

Fantastic!

I'll probably start off by ordering an S5 ZonePlayer at the weekend and then work on each of the other rooms as and when the budget will stretch!

Thanks again.

Just a warning if you are into football.
Key 103(and a lot of other stations) via the internet doesn't always have the football commentary on.
It's something to do with broadcast rights etc.

You'll love the S5!. If its the first and only Sonos zoneplayer you are buying (for now) then just a bit of advice, update the Sonosnet software to v3.1 first before adding it as a zoneplayer. 3.1 was released in the last two weeks purposely for the new Sonos S5 zoneplayer

Thanks for that Gary, hopefully I'll have my S5 within the next week or so, and then eventually go on to do the rest of the rooms later.

What I'm not sure of though, is that the S5 describes itself as a wireless music system and you can literally take the unit into another room provided there is a plug socket there, and it will work seemlessly. Even take it into the garden as the video demonstrates on the Sonos web site!

Is this true, or would the S5 need to connect wirelessly to an additional ZonePlayer or ZoneBridge that's hard wired into the router. Or could the S5 just connect wirelessly to the wireless router anyway without the need for any additional equipment.

Thankfully I shouldn't incur any of these problems as I intend to place the unit next to an ethernet wall socket which is linked up to the home network providing access to the internet and more importantly the NAS stored in the loft where all my music is stored. But just wanted to ask the question just incase I intend to have a BBQ in the garden in December!

Thanks

Re: Can Sonos play 'Key 103' radio station in Manchester?

Sonos is modular so like you say, just add another zone as and when. We shipped our first lot of S5's last week and the feedback has been brill. Managed to get our hands on some good S5 images if any use? Sonos ZonePlayer S5. Pre-Order Now!.In Stock Nov 10th

The S5 is portable but if its the only zoneplayer in your Sonos system then a Sonos zonebridge (£79 inc VAT) plugged via ethernet into your router would be a good idea and would mean you can have S5 outdoors for the December BBQ

In the short term, as you have run ethernet throughout the house, you will be ok without the zonebridge as you can cable in to the CAT5e socket as you mention

Keep in mind too that if you intend to use an iPod Touch/iPhone as your controller you also need Wi-Fi in the area around the S5 (over and above the Sonos wireless mesh).

If your using a CR200 (or CR100) you don't require Wi-Fi.

Good point Joe. Sonos ZP's and controllers 'talk' to each other directly using the Sonosnet software whereas iPhone/Touch uses standard wifi and connect to Sonos via your wireless router

Re: Can Sonos play 'Key 103' radio station in Manchester?

You are going to LOVE the Sonos system!

I have never listened to so much music in all my life.
It is just soooo easy to access all your own collection.(i ripped it to FLAC etc)
The added bonus is the massive internet radio service and other services like Napster and my favourite "Last FM".
I've taken to mainly listening to Last FMs "my neighbourhood" selection.
I think it uses my "grobbling" information to gather songs i might like to listen too.
Either way it has opened my eyes to so much more music. (and it's all free!)

The Sonos system also lets you input another audio devices and stream this around the house.
I have connected a DAB tuner, so basically have access to every type of audio on offer...
