Squeezebox + iPeng + Napster

Hi all,

I have recently subscribed to napster (£10 for 3 months) and bought iPeng for my iphone.

I have tested my setup using squeezeplay on my computer to show that I can effectively control my napster libary using my iphone and this is all fine and dandy.

Obviously the next step is to get myself an actual squeezebox (without remote) to place in my bedroom so I can use it as intended.

Now for my question,

I do not wish to have my PC on all the time, or a NAS, I just want my squeezebox to connect to squeezenetwork and stream from napster, that is going to be my only music source(for the moment).

Is this possible, eg. Squeezebox connected to router, no pc on or nas etc running squeezecentre, and iPeng controlling the squeezebox?
I am begining to think that it isnt, as iPeng interfaces with squeezecentre, and not the squeezebox itself?

Any ideas?

Thanks

All squeezeboxes (apart from Duet and radio) come with an IR remote for direct control of the device.

I often only connect to Napster via my squeezebox.com (AKA squeezenetwork), the only issue with using Ipeng on the Iphone in this scenario is that it takes Ipeng quite a long time to start up and you have to force connect it to the internet service. I think this is because the default is for Ipeng to look for the local server first, once this is timed out, the option to connect via the internet comes available. Once connected to 'mysqueezebox' (squeezenetwork) Ipeng works fine without a local server.

I might ask Coolio (author of Ipeng) to add an option to skip the search/wait for the local server and direct connect to the internet server.

No, that works fine. iPeng needs to talk to _a_ server, but that can as well be MySqueezebox.com (as SqueezeNetwork is now called).

Actually I don't fully understand that.
Which iPeng version do you use? There should be no waiting required in 1.2.
You can always swipe right on the NowPlaying screen and select "MySqueezebox.com" right away, whether you are connected to the local server or not.
Actually, since you do have to connect your Squeezebox to MySB anyway, the best way to do this is through iPeng: You simply select "MySqueezebox.com" as "Music Source" while still connected to your own server and then iPeng will ask you to "take along" your player. That way, both iPeng and your player will be connected to MySB afterwards.
Sounds more complicated as it is, it's just a single click and a confirmation.

If your server is already down (and your Squeezebox disconnected), you somehow have to connect your SB to MySB.com and that can't be done through iPeng then.
Also, it can take a few seconds until MySB "sees" the Squeezebox but that's also nothing to do with iPeng itself.

Re: Squeezebox + iPeng + Napster

From memory I don't normally get the option to connect to mysqueezebox.com coming up straight away. Ipeng seems to pause for a while then I do get the option to move over to the internet based services. I'm using ver 1.2.
I'll time it tonight Coolio, maybe I'm being unreasonably impatient.
Did I read somewhere that you were in Scotland recently? If so, I hope you had a good time here!

Re: Squeezebox + iPeng + Napster

Brilliant!!
I was going to go with the receiver for the duet from richer sounds for 80 quid as a cheap option, but I am now thinking for my first setup getting a 'boom' as when I move out this can be one of my smaller zones (I will have a proper sound setup in the livingroom).

I must say the iPeng application is fantastic, and the support on your site has been top notch, you are more than welcome to the 5.99 I paid, and all your future sucess!

That should only be the case if you don't have an internet connection on your iPhone/iPod, otherwise it should always be available under "Music Sources".

Yes, indeed, I did have a very good time. Even the weather was better than back in Germany.
Beautiful country, nice and helpful people! We were mainly visiting the western highlands and Skye with two days in Glasgow and Edinburgh.

Re: Squeezebox + iPeng + Napster

Kaulart, the Boom is actually very good value for money, and is particularly well suited for bedroom/kitchen type use.

In my opinion you would be hard pushed to equal the quality for money with a receiver / squeezebox - amp - speakers combo. The sound quality is very, very good for a wee 'ghetto blaster'.

Adding Ipeng to the mix just makes it better, as Ipeng is a much more satisfying means of accessing Napster/lastFM etc.

Re: Squeezebox + iPeng + Napster

Its deffo going to be the route I go down for the moment, I am in the last few years of staying with my parents, so when I do move out, I will be looking to expand my setup with proper Hi Fi Kit anyway.
This way I can work on getting an effective solution in place for streaming the music (will eventually add a NAS for my own personal collection in FLAC) and simply move it out with me and add in different zones.

Then we were actually very lucky. Those pictures are a bit misleading. 15-16°C ("hot") and mostly sunny except for the last two days when there was a clear sky and 12° ("coldest day since summer").
Only Skye was rainy ("without rain you haven't seen Skye"). And all of this at a time when Berlin was seeing the first snow
