What media player?

I have what I would think is a common problem. My computer is upstairs, loaded with 4k MP3 files, managed through i-Tunes, all beautifully tagged with many playlists created for various occasions, and played through a Panasonic home cinema system.

I would like to play these through my hi-fi in the lounge, preserving the i-
Tunes playlists and tags etc, but using the TV for a monitor. I have bought and tried various wireless media players over the years, and they were all flaky in using the wireless link.

So, without reverting to a laptop, I would like a media player with its own sizeable HDD that can play my MP3 files through the TV/hi-fi, hard wired, using the TV screen to display the menus in the same way as i-Tunes. Video and photo displays.

I have followed developments in Trusted Reviews but can't find the ideal kit. If I have to use external USB storage so be it, but any advice would be gratefully received.

Thanks

Steve Hall

Re: What media player?

Hello Steve... and welcome!

I'm no expert, but thought I might be able to get you started. Have a read through of this thread: A Media Center House: from loft to lounge, kitchen, bedroom... It's quite a long one (should keep you quiet for the next week or two!!!). From what I understand of your post, it's similar to what this chap achieved, albeit with AV rather than just audio.

Maybe you could utilise some of his ideas re: streaming hardwired from a remote location to TV. If nothing else, it's an inspiring project!!

Re: What media player?

have you looked at an apple tv

I used an airport express for a while but like yourself I wanted to control the content without using a computer in my lounge.

I now have an apple tv which works great you can stream to it from itunes the unit will see your libary on your computer and/or you can sync files to it. When playing files via the apple tv you can also play music on your computer independently.

I am sat listening to Robben Ford from the apple tv with photos of my family etc scrolling up as a screen saver.

My wife likes it too which is a plus

oh hello everyone this is my first post.
