Sibilance with flac files

I started using streaming just over a year ago. I use EAC to rip my CDs to FLAC on a desktop pc.

Originally, I used a squeezebox but quickly upgraded that to SB+. At the time, I did not have the kit in my signature - the SB+ went straight into a MF A3 amp to MA GS10 speakers.

However - as soon as I got the SB+ there was noticeable sibilance on some of the CDs (i.e an "S" in the lyrics was more like an "SSSSS"). Even with significant upgrade in other items since then, it's still there.

Until this weekend, my MP3 files were ripped on my laptop. However, I decided this made no sense - so yesterday, I converted all of my FLAC files to MP3 on the desktop, retagged then with album art and downloaded them to my phone.

Much to my surprise, the mp3 files now have the same sibilance I hear on my main hi-fi. Which means the source of that sibilance can only be in the flac files themselves.

Has anybody else found this? Any suggestions on how I get rid of it? I guess it's something to do with the way EAC is ripping the CDs (I use secure mode)?
