Advice needed for a proper newb! :)

Hi,

I'm not at all technically minded so please bear with me. I'm considering purchasing an AVA RS3 server so I can rip all my CDs onto it. I'm not intersted in having music in different rooms, all I need is to be able to have quick and easy access to all my music using something like a Sonos controller or Logitech.

Here's the bit I'm not sure about. I know that a DAC can boost the quality of a CD player, so could the same be done with the AVA RS3? Or is the fact the music is stored and played from a hard drive make a DAC redundant (I'm guessing not, given the data is still digital?).

Apologies if this sounds like a really dumb question, I'm learning as I go along and don't know anyone who is into home entertainment that I can ask

Thanks in advance.

AVA RS3 Music Server is just the storage for your ripped music.

You'll still need a music streamer/player from the likes of Sonos, Squeezebox, Linn, Naim, Sooloos, etc.

Whether you add a DAC to a player really depends on your budget and expectations.

A £250 DAC might well improve a £250 Squeezebox Touch, probably less relevant for a £1,800 Linn Majik DS.
