Differing volumes on sonos/nas tracks.

Hello.

I have all my tunes ripped as lossless files on to a nas. My main listening area has the sonos (via fixed output) hooked into my quad cdp (which has inbuilt preamp and dac) and then into my Onkyo 875. The quad output to the Onkyo is also fixed output so that the volume for the whole thing is adjusted via the Onkyo.

I'm finding huge variations in the volumes of recordings which results in me continually having to fiddle with the volume control. This is a major issue when I'm listening at loud volumes because the next recording may come out at ear splitting levels!

Can anything be done about this?

Thanks

If your lossless files are flac, ReplayGain will do what you want.

Foobar is a free media player that will handily add RG tags to flacs. dBPoweramp is another good one. The tags can be removed if you ever need/want to.

Two FAQs on the Sonos website will help:

For Apple Lossless (via iTunes) use this link

For FLAC files try this one...
