Yep got one, a few niggles at the moment with a few things but will get sorted out in due course, however more than impressed, sound is really good even coming out of one speaker, screen very bright and vivid for a small screen, can link with facebook to see your pictures, wall, feeds, ideal size for my needs, they will be selling a battery pack with remote for it later in the year. I think this will be a little gem, the other model boom is fantastic, however with this I think it will appeal more, especially with the screen, and the ease of use of the menu, and more portable size.

Been playing with one for a few months now. Wireless performance is excellent and it sounds amazing for what it is. Also have a battery pack and get 10+ hours constant playback, which is very good for a wifi device. Perfect for the bathroom, kitchen and trip out to the garden etc.

Re: AVForums Squeezebox Radio discussion thread

I was seriously considering buying one, but took the absolute lack of anyone talking about them as a bad sign!!

I think it looks great though; the ability to pick up last.fm is always a massive plus... but the lack of DAB made me opt for a Pure Evoke Flow (got it cheap in the 'open box' sale at Superfi!) which I'm really impressed with so far.

Obviously anything Squeezebox flavoured has the massive benefit of being able to be controlled by the one remote... which is an awesome idea... I think they're really hit the nail on the head with their solution; it makes the multi-room system so much sexier than Sonos.

It would be awesome to have a SB Touch in the living room, a Boom in the bedroom (pardon the pun) and a Radio in the kitchen.

In fact, thinking about it, they should have called it the Squeezebox 'Fumble'... as then you could have had a touch in the lounge, a fumble in the kitchen and a boom in the bedroom.
Damn I should work in marketing!

Definately getting one of these, but the current price is too much for me. Hopefully will see them getting down towards £100 then that'll tempt me.

Squeezebox Radio (Red)

Hi, where is the best (and cheapest) to get the radio in red? All I see is the black option and I need red to go with the rest of the kitchen!

I bought one of these with the code, looking forward to the radio arriving. It will be used in the kitchen and then when I get a battery for outside, living room has a duet and upstairs has a boom for me so the "zones" are increasing...

Buggar, missed it by a day
This is for the kitchen, got a SB Classic in the lounge, may at some point upgrade that to the Touch and then put the classic in the bedroom.

Hi James,

The only place I know of that sells the red radio is this Dutch site where I bought mine.

Logitech Squeezebox Radio Limited Edition by: Logitech - Wifimedia -

The snag is that with p&p to the UK, you'll pay a lot more than if you buy the black one from Logitech or Amazon. It is lovely though...

Hmmmm I do like it, but not enough to pay over the odds for it.
Not getting it for a few more weeks so it might become more readily available.

Re: AVForums Squeezebox Radio discussion thread

Apologies in advance for the basic question...

I thought I read somewhere that you could access/play your mp3's etc. from your computer, even if your computer is off.

Is this right??!

No, well kind of but it's tricky.

Out of the box it plays your MP3's when your PC is on and accesses internet radio stations/online services.
If your PC is off then you can change a setting and it can still access internet radio stations and all of those services but NOT play your music.

However, if you get a NAS and install Squeezecenter on it (not an easy job), then you can indeed play your music files whilst your PC is switched off.

Hope that helps

Thanks mate - that makes total sense. I must have read some misleading press statement at some point...

The main thing I want it for really is the internet radio functionality. Anything else is just a bonus...

Or you buy a NAS with it already installed such as the Netgear ReadyNAS Duo.

We have both black and red
Logitech Squeezebox™ Radio plays Internet radio and digital music files - Quantum Electronics (UK) Limited

Red is a limited edition and is not going to be available for much longer according to Logitech.

Two other ways to go as well.

1. Napster 30 day trial access to there large mp3 library and make your own playlists, then currently 5 pounds a month to keep streaming and download a couple of tracks, though can be a bit slow on updating from my tests so far, however instant jukebox

2. Which I currently have, old compaq pc bought off ebay for 30 pounds, 160gb hard drive, vortex server software that includes the squeezebox server software, plugged into my router. Vortex software currently free though donations appreciated. It will also rip your cds and convert to mp3 and flac and search for album art. Easy to install, download on disc, put in cd drive and it will format and install software on. Only tricky bit I found was setting an ip address outside the range of my router and setting them within the software, as will switch ip addresses on each connection otherwise. Saying that was up and running within 30 mins. You can leave it on, and wake it up, and shut it down however I just turn mine on when I need it.

Option 2 was 80 pounds.

Though I have since bought an ipod touch, which I now can control my radio box and server with app peng. Which bumps the budget up a bit to 220, Though I can also stream apple format video from it to my ipod touch now with another app called iplug player, though its a basic but works quite well.

cons with the above though, space for another pc, power consumption and if you need massive storage, as you will need to add a few more bits and spend more on a sata drive. Not sure if you could add more storage on the usb side.

Re: AVForums Squeezebox Radio discussion thread

Mine arrived yesterday - thank you Quantum.
Very nice looking and so easy to set up.

One thing I've had frustrations with is the album art, it displays too big on the screen so you can't see the whole image. Seems a bit daft to me, but apparantly people complained it was too small last time.

If the option to use a smaller image is not there (i will look, but i am sure it was) i believe its coming. Personally i much prefer the larger artwork, but its how my iphone does it that way so maybe im used to it. It was pointless before when it was so small on such a small screen.

What do you think of the sound? It sounds ridiculously good far a small mono speaker system, dont you think?

Re: AVForums Squeezebox Radio discussion thread

Well if I'm honest, my baby was asleep in the room upstairs so couldn't really go higher than level 5, it sounded rich though
It's actually a Christmas present from Mrs G - I persuaded her that I should test it thoroughly though just in case it was broken

I don't mind large artwork, but you'd think it would fit to screen rather than be too big. Strange really, hopefully there is a setting though as you say.

I am getting one of these and a Boom for Christmas, hopefully they are worth the money

I may buy a Netgear ReadyNAS Duo to use with them.

I'm guessing the iPhone app does everything that the SB Controller does but for alot less cash?

Except for initial configuration of a Squeezebox Receiver (the other SBs can be configured using their own UI/IR remote), yes.
The Controller also has a few more hardware buttons.

Genius!

You can setup the receiver without the remote but you need to telnet into the device so it's a little bit more drawn out. But to be honest, a saving of £140 is worth the extra 'research'.

Back on track with the Radio... ordered one through the Amazon deal (ends SOON! http://www.avforums.com/forums/home-...ed-amazon.html)

I think they'll probably replace the boom soon. Logitech seem to be replacing all the squeezebox line with colour displays.

Will let you know my thoughts on the radio on Wednesday!

I got my Radio and Boom for Christmas, so far only setup the Radio and I am very happy with it. Working great on my home wifi connection with both my local iTunes library and Napster. The sound quality out of such as small mono device is brilliant. Will try the Boom tonight when I get home from work.

Logitech Squeezebox Radio (thinks it is outside UK)

I just bought one of these and am very pleased with it apart from one thing. When I tried to play a stream from Kerrang, a synthetic voice announced that 'reception of this stream is limited to mainland UK only' or something along those lines.

Being in Leeds, equidistant from east and west coasts, you couldn't get more 'mainland UK'. I have searched Google and the only thing I found was a reviewer who said that the Squeezebox radio thought it was in Germany and presented German stations as local.

If anyone has one of these, I would be grateful for any tips on how to sort this out. Failing that I'll have to contact Logitech support

Basically, if you're connecting from UK, I think the closest server is the Frankfurt server which supplies all of Europe. So any requests will be relayed through that server (annoyingly).

An easy fix is to connect through Squeezecenter, which will run the Squeezebox through the PC you installed Squeezecenter on. Although you have to keep you PC on, it does mean you can share MP3s through squeezecenter software.

Hope that helps or makes sense? Also, try going to mysqueezebox.com and set your localisation to UK.

Also bear in mind that there's serious issues with the new squeezebox products (Radio and Duet) connecting to this european server at the moment:

Had one of these for a couple of weeks now and I am very impressed.

I already have a Duet with music on a QNAP NAS running SqueezeCentre which thankfully is running nicely and is stable.

The Radio if anything is faster to respond and has a better wifi signal than my Duet, even though it is furthest from the router.

The only snag I hit was in trying to connect out of the box to wireless. It could not connect until I had performed a firmware upgrade. This was easily solved by connecting first by Ethernet to perform the upgrade then all was fine.

It makes a great bedroom device because the display automatically dims to a very low level, avoiding the 'Blackpool illuminations' effect of some devices at night.

I got hold of mine for just over £80 through a company purchase scheme - and quite honestly I wish I had bought a couple of them at that price.

Not sure if I'd want to pay £140 for one though...

I have the Squeezebox Radio for about a week now. I absolutely LOVE IT!!

I've been looking for a nice alarm clock next to my bed for years. Boom was the most interesting thing I was thinking of, but it's just too big for my little bed side table.

Squeezebox radio is just perfect size. Sound quality is amazing, way better than I expected for a little thing like that. Auto-dimming display is just lovely for a bedroom alarm clock.

I installed the Squeezebox server on my mediaserver PC which is always on and holds all my music (iTunes library) and also installed the iPeng software on my iPhone. Really impressive how easily everything worked out. I tend to operate the Radio only with iPeng, as it's just so convenient.

If I have to think of any negative things, I'm still a little bit confused with the option of connecting to my own server or to mysqeezebox.com, and the difference with all the stored stations when connecting to the one or other. Also selecting the wake up alarm isn't really clear yet, as I first time tried it this week, my mediaserver PC was accidentally shut down, so I woke up to some sound loops instead of the online radio I thought I'll be waking up to. This might be all just because I'm a clueless newbie with the device. Anyway, it woke me up which is most important.

In the end I'm absolutely happy with it and seriously thinking of buying another one for the kitchen.

I would have bought already the Sqeezebox Receiver for my living room home theatre, but as I have already the Apple Airport Express hooked up to it, it seems a bit useless now.

Cheers,
Sterno
