ZyXEL NSA220 sucks at BT

Hopefully this is just happening to me, but I just bought a NSA220, upgared to the 2.30 firmware and started using it as a bittorrent seed box.
The problem I am having is that the although the download speeds are acceptable, the upload speeds are just plain dreadful, hardly ever going above single digits. I did setup port forwarding for both TCP and UDP and yet the upload speed just plain sucks (yes there are leechers out there).
Is this a CPU limitation issue?

Hey Camberiu, I'm sorry to hear you're having problems with the NSA220's torrent performance. My first suggestion would be to contact ZyXEL tech support (I work at ZyXEL, but not in tech support). They should be able to help you troubleshoot the problem. 1-800-978-7222. If you want to PM me your phone number, I can have someone give you a call.

If you'd like to give me more details on the problem, I can try to troubleshoot it via the forum here. Like I said, I'm not in tech support, but I could give it a try.

What sort of upload speeds are you getting? What sort of upload speeds do you get if you seed via your computer instead of the NSA220? Which ports have you forwarded to the NSA220?

Re: ZyXEL NSA220 sucks at BT

Hello Shawn,

Thanks for the reply. Normally on my regular computer, I see sustained upload rates of 150kb/s, which is the cap I set on the torrent client itself. On the NSA220, I am seeing mostly single digit upload numbers. Sometimes it spikes to 50kb/s or so, but just for a few moments, and then the transfer rate drops again to single digits. Since the max upload rate of my Internet connection is 200kb/s, the NAS220 is nowhere near maxing out my line.

I am using port 55114 for TCP and 55113 for UDP.

Thanks again for any assistance you can provide on this.

Re: ZyXEL NSA220 sucks at BT

Silly question time, but is there any chance the discrepancy might be that your normal torrent software uses kb/s to report upload speed, whereas I believe the built-in client on the NSA220 uses KB/s?

200kb/s = 25KB/s

If not, can you confirm if the speeds you mentioned in your post are kb or KB?

Also, could you open up the "preferences" tab on the download application on the NSA220 and make sure the proper ports are configured and to make sure the upload speed is set to something reasonably large?
