any news on tv 301. when will we be getting a first look at them, thought they were due to be shipped end of feb begining of march. getting bored waiting for these players might just go with the pch a-300 instead as it seems dune are certainly dragging there heels with this player.

They have shipped from Taiwan end of feb/start of march and are being airfreighted to Dune in Germany. We've placed our pre-order and hoping to get them next week or early the week after.

Things are changing again, product renamed to 301A and AW for wireless and the suggested retail price has gone up by almost 10%. Does this mean we can expect a B version too?

its always been a and aw. The a basically means it ships with a universal power supply. The non-a version is EU only. Its the same with the TV-101a and aw

I had noticed they had put up the EU price. I will be honouring the original price for all our pre-orders, but we'll be reviewing the prices after the initial batch has been shipped.

It seems the 101 has trouble with mp4 containers.
e.g. it can't detect mp3 or mp2 audio.

Do we know if the 301 have the same firmware as the 101? Since the 101 wasn't playing DTS audio I had to get rid of them.

The TV101 & TV301 share the same Sigma chipset, so the firmware will have been written using the same SDK. Their hardware is basically the same with just additional connections on the TV301 so I would expect them to have near enough identicle firmware.

I figured that would be the case, but was just hoping for a different answer :-)

Have tests been run on the 301s with DTS files to see if the problems are consistent?

Considering one of these devices for family, do they have component connections?

Thanks..

the 301 arent out yet so no tests have been done in the wild. only the non-TV101/301 machines have component out

So Dune have dropped it altogether now? Initially they did, then they changed it to a connector I believe?

Until we get them in we cant confirm. Hopefully its on the break out cable, but until I actually see it in the flesh then I am erring on the side of caution - just in case!

I have been on the phone this morning. The TV-301s are shipping to us on the 28th/29th. Finally! So we should have them a few days after that. I can confirm then if they have the component lead or not. Hopefully I will be pleasantly surprised.

As far as I am aware they are still trying to co-ordinate the release of the firmware with the TV-301 availability, so I am hoping that will be available before Easter.

If you look at the picture of the rear of the TV301 on the Dune website - Dune HD TV-301A » Dune HD GmbH
there is a mini jack port labelled as 'Y/Pb/Pr' which should mean that it does have a Component output via a breakout cable - but as Graham says lets wait to see one in the flesh before making any promises, as that has come back to bite him several times with this player already

I put a support ticket into Dune on the TV-101 unit with my issue of it not playing the DTS audio of movies with the unit in PCM mode instead of bitstream. The response I got was

"Hello! its normal working mode of TV-101"

I got a similar response from support via internal communication lines. The low down I've had from Alexsi, head of development in Moscow, via my contact is that Sigma told them to implement something and it broke stuff. They're still telling me its a bug they are working on.

This has been an ongoing argument since the announcement of the TVx01 players. The Dune website does not list any DTS formats for these players and it was asked by many if they did or did not support DTS. IIRC Graham did ask Dune and they said it was just an error on the web pages and it would get corrected - but never did

So I'm not too sure what the truth of this is

I returned two of the 101 units because of this. Several friends were about to buy these as well and now are moving onto something else or waiting. I would buy them or the 301 in a second if they fix it

DTS through PCM. I really hope they fix this. This player would be a huge hit if they do. Will be interesting to see if the 301 has the same issue or not. Guess we will find out in a week or so

I'm looking at buying the 101 / 301.

Does the 101 in its current firmware state output DTS ok via bitstream?
Does it play MP4 media ok?

yes and yes its down mixing that is proving to be problematic at the moment. mp4 is listed in the supported formats

I expected it would play standard MP4 files ok, just the post further up this page mentioned some issues. (Plus I've had a Gen2 WD in the past that had issues with MP4/AAC Lip Sync). DTS via bitstream is fine for me, my AV receiver would deal with the DTS.

in terms of playback I'd expect them to be the same

Some mp4 files are rendered at 23.980 instead of the expected 23.976Hz which at least for me is sometimes causing lip sync issues. The great thing about the Dunes is that you can easily adjust sync on the fly whilst the file is playing, so no biggy for me

Forgive my ignorance and lazyness, so to sum it up dts* downmix doesn't work and mp4's with aac audio don't work? Even my prehistoric a110 plays both fine. This is a total deal breaker for me and hdland is already selling the 301's

For me the cherry on top with the dune was the 'native' udp multicast support and the price, compared to the new pch's. It appears I have to find something completley different.

Does anyone have any kind of info whether these issues will be fixed? Much appreciated.
