That's weird new sigma chips should be able to handle +40mbps streams via smb. There are a couple of things that could be the cause of your problems.

Older sigma chips used way more of it's cpu power (for some reason) when using smb, compared to nfs or http. This 'could' cause stutters and other problems, maybe this is still the case with new chips. Though unlikely.

There could be an issue with your win7 machine and something called network throttling or rather 'Multimedia Class Scheduler Service (MMCSS)'. You can read some info about it here http://blogs.technet.com/b/markrussinovi...33290.aspx among other places. Basically if there's any kind of media playing going on on your win7 box, network bw gets throttled to 'preserve' stream quality. This was intoruduced with vista and still bugs win7 machines especially on gbit networks.

Try disabling it under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Multimedia\SystemProfile by changing "NetworkThrottlingIndex" value to hex ffffffff

1. TrueHD output as stereo
2. dts-ma frequently drop audio signal to AV amp (usually when theres a large contrast in soundtrack volume)

Board Message

tbh, it renders the mediabox useless for large quality MKVs, restricting them to old dts or DolbyDigital tracks.
Theres no promised fix by date, but you'd hope they'd be addressed in next f/w release?
I have no problems with my music blu-rays that I have ripped so far, even 40GB mkv files stream perfectly with DTS HD MA audio (all ripped with MakeMKV straight to the NAS), the only ones not working for me are those with Dolby TrueHD audio, they show as "STEREO" on my AMP. I used the latest BETA firmware for the Dune HD 301.

It all seems to be a little hit and miss. Everyone (with a 101 and 301) has the same issue with TrueHD only outputting as stereo.

DTS-MA seems to be much more sporadic but it does seem to only happen with DTS-MA streams up around 50mbps. I have some DTS-MA rips that play fine and others that won't play at all. The suttering actually caused my receiver to power cycle!

These same streams play without fault on the Dune B1 I also own so it must be an issue with the firmware and new chipset somewhere...

Is that just the issue with truehd or hd audio in general?

TrueHD is what I wrote in the ticket about, they didn't specify anything else just that its a known issue and their working on it.

Good news, at least they've admitted there's a problem and their working on it, hopfully the TruHD and DtsMA audio probs will be sorted in the next firmware update.

I ended up buying a Smart B1 and religating the 101 to the bedroom where I just have a TV (the built in WIFI works well!) although it would be nice to get the HD audio functionality at some point.

Hi,
Bought the item 2 days ago.
i just applied the patch over latest beta firmware but no avail. Still stuttering with HD audios even i plugged hard disk directly via bitstream.

It's a firmware bug that's causing the issue with hd audio. We've been waiting sometime now for a fix for it I'm afraid.

I know. But as i read the whole thread (which i saw unfortunately after i got the TV101) you guys waiting for it more than 3 months?
Do you think firmware would cure the problem or its depended of hardware?
and do you guys think that firmware would come soon? Im thinking to give away the item if its gonna be take long.
Cheers

It's anyones guess I'm afraid. There's only one person who may have an inkling when it's likely to be but he's gagged by a non-disclosure agreement that he's signed with Dune.

My guess is that it will be released this year :-P
.....possibly.

firmware should fix the issue, the hardware in the 101/301 is more upto date than the Smart models.

The firmware has been in closed beta so its not going to be that far off (I havent had a play though!)

I've got my 301 also thanks to Graham .
I had to correct you Graham because I tested with an external 3.5 1Tb disk connected directly from my storage to the usb 3.0 of the 301 and the device is playing everything .
So either you play through network or direct to the usb 3.0 is working great

correct me for what?

the blue usb 3 connector on the back is a slave connector meaning you use it to connect it to a pc and it will appear as a usb drive. Its a Type A connector not a Type B

the black usb port on the back is Type B usb 2 only, not usb3.

I have a dock station for my 1TB 3.5 sata which have a usb3 and I connect it directly to the 301 and plays smoothly the movies .
The same is if I connect it through the pc which works and plays through network

you are connecting it to the usb 2 port on the back of the dune, usb3 devices are backward compatible. Its not running at usb3 speeds. USB3 on the 301 is *only* for slave operations

Stand by or On ? Sometimes when I shut down the 101w with the remote, the device is cold, sometimes it stays hot for days, heating the USB drive if left plugged. Any other way other than unplugging the power cord ?

There's an option in one of the menus (mines not on at the moment) that lets you set it to completely power off rather than staying in standby and keeping USB devices powered.

It does take longer to power on but you're saving on energy!

I think the Standby mode also goes power off after a few hours? I used to put it in standby and I noticed after a hour it would quick start, but if waiting a day or so its completely powered off As for the HD audio (for everyone who is still planning to buy this) the problem is only with Dolby TrueHD, not DTS-HD versions!

I'm not sure about the standby thing. If I leave it in standby mode with a USB device with a light that comes on when it's powered it never goes off?

I have continued issues with DTSHD on the official beta firmware but only very high bit rate rips...

Not sure if this has been posted, but I switched on our TV101 this AM, and it is downloading a new firmware 120531_2201_beta.

Not sure what it changes at moment...

The new firmware added the following things (as far as I discovered so far):
Facebook app
Twitter app
AccuWeather app
Games section (chess, sudoko, memory etc)

They all seem to be Flash based.

Also this update has not yet fixed the TrueHD issue for me.

There has been no mention of the new firmware over at MPC Club, which is strange as they are normally the first to mention anything new from Dune
Also checked on my Prime 3.0 and there is no updated firmware found for that

Oh well over to Graham to tell us what is going on then

Mark.

As they say its better to use the 2200 beta for the 301 because of the bugs .

Some bugs I found are

When you enter facebook or Accu or other the system doesn't go back and yoy have to switch off and again on

The 2nd is probably from the cable .If you made 12 bit instead of 8bit then when you will watch movies you will see a lot of white sparkles ! Especially if you put on pause the movie and play with the contrast you may fill all the screen!

did you try to press the "stop" button once on the app (FB, Accu,...). I heard that it goes back to the main UI.

I can confirm that for the D1 and the 53d, stop gets you out
