Could you confirm if it is possible to use a component out of these devices and what method to achieve this?

The images of the 301 on your site, Graham, look different and newer. Essentially are the differences still between the 301 and 101 that:

- hot swap HDD
- usb 3.0 slave and additional port

Aside from the audio issues with HD content, is the current firmware stable and everything else work fine?

Graham, what connectors/adapters do you get with the 301?

I have a TV with HDMI but I also have a TV that only has component so am wondering if the 301 could be connected to it?

ok.

Ripped my Avatar BD ISO to MKV and folder structure and retested
ISO, MKV, and folder structure all play dts-ma without a problem

The 301 has two 3.5mm sockets on the back. one AV out gives composite and l/r stereo. The second is labelled component (well YPbPr actually). In the video menu you can select analog (component) and it enables this port.

In the box you get a universal power supply, ir extender cable, an hdmi cable, network cable, USB3 A>B lead and a 3.5mm minijack to composite and l/r stereo. They do not supply a composite cable, and the other cable doesnt work in the component connection. I cant seem to find a 3.5mm minijack to component cable on the market though

Graham, many thanks for the info.

Would it be possible to ask Dune themselves? Maybe they do such a cable, if they do then I'd also like to know how much the cable would cost?

there is no patch it works out of the box - you just need to go into settings and set things to the correct things based on your environment. I think by default auto framerate isnt set but its just a setting to change

So to install the dsf file.
-Have a usb key formated in fat32
-Drag the .dsf file onto the root of your USB drive
-Connect the USB drive to your dune
-Select the removable disk in the interface.
-Run/launch the dsf file by pressing OK
-Succes

connecting Dune HD TV 101W to iMac

Just received my Dune HD TV 101W
I was able to set it up (SMB) and connect to a windows xp PC via a wifi

Now I am trying to connect it to my apple iMac (latest intel based) but no luck.

It recognizes the wifi router but can not connect to any iMac folders

How do I configure the Dune and the iMac

any help will be appreciated

Ok Then,

Ripped Avatar Blu to .iso, folder structure, played Rip over my network without any probs from .iso, folders, and .m2ts, so alls well there as posted by Graham.

Ripped UK Real Steel blu to .iso and flolders to check another blu and all is not well, audio drop outs continue throught the movie.

Both rips created with the same set up and the .m2ts file will play on the HDX with out any probs over my network, as you've said they'll either play or they won't....

Anyway, will upgrading the firmware or applying the patch solve the drop out problem ?

If it where my player (it's my brothers) i'd take the gamble and upgrade the firmware and apply the patch, as i appreciate there's generally niggles with these newly released players.

Thanks

there is no current 301 beta firmware. The dts patch flying around is not official so I cant advise on that. I'm sure there will something in due course. Until a unit is out in the field its very hard to test every possible combination before release.

Thanks for the reply,

Ok, with regard to the firmware, the player is currently on 120127_2115 and there appears to be a beta (available via firmware upgrade tab on 301) 120202_1544 beta.

Is this not a 301 beta or just a across the board dune beta firmware ?

Thanks

Updated firmware, which made no difference to HD audio drop out....and to be honest i wasn't suprised after reading the changelog and there was no mention of hd audio.

Tested the core tracks over hdmi (changing audio settings to s/pdif) and they played fine without any drop outs.

A problem with bitstreaming HD audio it is then, but it's so random in what movies it drops out in it's difficult to put your finger on whats causing it......other than firmware off course.

Question about DTS decoding on the 101/301

I'm interested in purchasing either a 101 or 301 for my bedroom and I've read that some people have been having issues decoding DTS (not DTS-HD MA). Since the device will be hooked up to my TV I just need it to decode + downmix the DTS track to 2.0. Is this possible with the current firmware?

I have a large collection of BD rips and high-bitrate encodes in MKV format with AC3/DTS/FLAC multi-channel audio as well as SRT/PGS subs. Will any of these formats be an issue. I just need the Dune to downmix and output 2.0 PCM to my TV.

I'm really just looking for something that will be reliable and work well (the WDTV Live Streaming I purchased last week has a firmware bug that makes high-bitrate MKV playback a slideshow; DLNA works but I'm not converting 5 TB of MKVs). From what I've read, Dune has set the gold standard for streaming media players but it seems the new models have some issues with DTS playback. Just wanted to confirm it'll work in my setup.

The problem people are experiencing is exactly what you want. It down mixes to stereo and they want down mixing to dts. So it should be ok for your requirements

When I had my 101 unit I could not play any DTS MKV's through PCM to my TV. I would get video but no sound at all. When I did it through my receiver and picked bitstream everything worked fine. This is with the current 101 firmware.

The Smart units H1, D1, B1 all work fine. I have one of each on my bedrooms.

Unless a new 101 (assuming 301 since they share same firmware) firmware comes out I wouldn't buy one without being able to try it on the TV or at the very least buy one with an easy return policy.

You already bought a WDTV live and had bad experience with it, I'd hate to see you have a second bad experience!
