my contact has been testing the new firmware over the weekend. He is in the process of making some notes I can tell people. He has reviewed what HD Land have said and he says its not the correct info. He is letting me know the correct info. Dont know a release date yet though but is imminent.

Mark mentioned elsewhere that the new firmware had reverted back to the more stable "old" DVD engine from the new DVD engine. Is this correct do we know ?

the firmware Mark mentioned is the June '11 release. It has an option to use the old engine as an option (defaults to new engine). It gives you the choice of which to use. They may have fixes in this new version - dont know yet.

Thanks Graham

topgazza, as yet I have absolutely no info on the next firmware so can't give any info on it - but that's all about to change in the next hour or so isn't it Graham (no pressure ).

I was just being cheeky as we have been waiting for this since Graham mentioned it after talking to Dune back at the end of August when they said it would be released 'within 7 weeks'

The quote from "spock" mentions something else...
Agh we just wait, first it was for sunday, monday, we are tuesday now, then you read within the hour, and now again that isnt true

we'll just have to wait i think

Spock: The situation is grave, Admiral. We won't have main power for six "days". Auxiliary power has temporarily failed. Restoration may be possible, in two "days". By the book, Admiral.
Kirk: Meaning you can't even beam us back?
Spock: Not at present.
Kirk: Captain Spock, if you don't hear from us within one hour, your orders are to restore what power you can, take the Enterprise to the nearest star base, and alert Starfleet Command as soon as you're out of jamming range.
Commander Nyota Uhura: Sir, we won't leave you behind!
Kirk: Uhura, if you don't hear from us, there won't be anybody behind. Kirk out.
I was close! It was meant as a joke. in ST III it was exaggeration. With the Dune firmware its the opposite - we want hours but likely to be days.

not yet. I've just been on a Skype call with Dune trying to sort out the TV101 delivery issues and I asked again. They said they wanted to concentrate on the TV101 issue and sidestepped answering

sorry, no news yet, but I'm pestering them at every opportunity!

Dunes refusal to give any definite answers on the release of new firmware combined with the huge between them announcing the 101/301 and being able to supply them must be loosing them some custom!

I'm sure I remember Graham stating he has had a few cancelled orders due to the delay in the launch of the TV?01 players. Not so sure the firmware delays are causing loss of sale though as you still have a fully working player while waiting for a new firmware release.

I dont think its reluctance on Dune's part per se. My Account Manager is my route into Dune, and I think he is about to explode! I've asked and he has promised but then not delivered. Then the farce of the TV101. Very Frustrating.

as seen on HDland blog page (need confirmation from graham...) :

Quote:
The output of the firmware Dune HD has been delayed due to recent discoveries of critical bugs that must be corrected before publication. Once they are corrected (and no other critical bug is found in between), the firmware will be released.

That is quite possibly correct. However please take hdland announcements with caution. The specs they listed for the firmware release are wrong according to dune. NDA prevent further details unless sanctioned by dune. Hdland may have been given permission to say, I haven't

What does "BD-Lite for direct access to a film on a BluRay ISO" mean?

In fact what is BD Lite? I watch BD ISOs on my Smart and they work well (if a little slow to load).

When selecting the ISO. It reads it like a zip and then prompts asking which m2ts file to play. - you don't get the menus

When you press play on a player with BD-Lite, instead of going to the disc menu it generates a playlist and displays a list of possible files to play. The main film is normally the only one on the list with a lot of chapters and 9 times out of 10 it is the first one on the list. Selecting the item you want to play then takes you directly into the film.
The advantage of this is that you are not forced to watch anti-piracy messages or adverts etc and you get directly to the film a bit quicker.

Mark.

Thanks, so you get to the movie quicker, but on the other hand, how do you navigate to extras? (All my blu ray rips are rock concerts and extras are vital).

you have to select the relevant title from the playlist but it wont have meaningful names.

If you need extras from a "proper" menu then you need a machine with a full bluray license such as the h1, d1, b1 etc.

As Graham say the playlist will be displayed but nothing obvious is shown for navigation, ie for one BD I get:
Quote:
1. 01:30:08 (1080i), 11 chapters
2. 00:58:18 (1080i), 4 chapters
3. 00:08:53 (1080i)
4. 00:05:57 (1080i)
5. 00:00:31 (1080i)
and the chapters menu would just show as:
Quote:
Chapter 1
Chapter 2
..
..
..
etc
so no track names etc.

Thanks - I have the H1. I was hoping to create a home network (a NAS fo xmas) and get a streamer for my other living room. Am I right in thinking it's still only Dune and Popcorn players that support for blu ray menus?

Well the new firmware has arrived, but I'm not really impressed

No iPlayer or video wall but it does look like the features I quoted back in post #20 have been added, ie 3Tb HDD support and NTFS formatting from the UI. Mainly small changes and far too many to quote here so I suggest you have a look on the Dune firmware page - http://dune-hd.com/firmware/
