Is a good version of the playonX available for the PlayOnHD Mini yet rather than just the PlayOnHD?

Does anyone else's mini struggle with some 1080p content? Thats a couple of movies ive had stutter, all of which were 1080p. I wouldnt think it would be my network, im thinking it must be down to the processor struggling with higher bitrates?

I only had a couple of high bitrate MKV files that stuttered playing through network but these played fine when my external HD was plugged directly into the playon.

There is a version for the Mini in this thread but it's still in development and needs a USB stick with a Linux partition.

The scripting is a bit beyond my skills so I think I'll wait untill it's been worked on further though it looks really promising.

Hi,

Some simple questions just to put my mind to rest

I've just bought this...

I have an old CRT TV - the player can be connected easy enough? Does it come with necessary cables?
I have a 16gb USB stick which I plan to use - I guess this will be supported...is there a maximum size USB stick it'll recognise?
Is there a step by step to update the firmware?
Does it come with the USB adapter?

Thanks!

The Planet Earth bird scene won't play at all on mine. I doubt that's a network problem - this scene is famous for challenging players' processors. I haven't found anything else that gives any problems, but admittedly I don't have very much HD content (in fact, I may have no networked 1080p content).

It can connect to your TV using composite or component. The latter is better if your TV supports it (although HDMI is obviously better still). I don't recall any cables being included.

The USB stick will work fine, I don't believe there's any maximum size - USB sticks are treated just the same as USB harddrives by the PlayOn's Linux operating system, and 1TB drives would work just fine, I'm sure. Not sure what filesystems are supported.

If you mean the wifi USB adaptor then it's an optional extra.

Hi Folks,

My AC RYAN mini is on v7.0.21 r2898 i tried the mede8er image mentioned above. But i get incompatible bootloader trying flashing?

Did i get the wrong mede8er image or is the ac ryan version not compatible?

Is there a howto for this installation?

Thanks Alice

I did it from system update in the gui. There's an issue with pressing the power button method.

You first have to flash your mini with AC ryan firmware SDK 3.0 (I thought version 3582) to have the right boot loader

Not unless someone unlocks shizzle's firmware!

Which to awnswer a question raised on the previous page, I did not unlock the Mede8er firmware I found it after reading through many pages on MPC Club/Patriot Box Office forums and other forums trying to educate myself as To decompiling and and recompling the varios firmwares. It was on A Russian site, which also has some articles about hacking firmwares. After trying numerous firmwares these worked perfectly and I thought I would let people know and host them.

I found another hacked version of the mede8er V4.04 for playonHD/Mini with some modifications made to it in this thai forum. Installed it yesterday and it is working for me (PlayonHD with 1073DD)

You have the choice of two skins, different ways of showing the jukebox and weather/dreambox rss links available. Languages english, dutch are selectable after firmware setup. Entry to RSS feeds and setup for different skins: choose videowall in the main menu, when in videowall press the goto button on your remote.

Maybe this skins can be overwritten with the different GUI's made for the Mede8er Shizzl mod. Have not tried that (total noob with telnet etc).

Has anyone had much success with dts-ma? I just tried streaming an mkv, and whilst my mini managed to extract the core track just fine, it stuttered like crazy and my amp (dts-ma capable) switching between dts and no audio every few seconds. Video played fine throughout the clip.

Hi guys, I have been running the mede8ter firmware on my POHD mini for a month or so and it is great, thanks for sharing it.
I have one small problem and wonder if anyone can help.
When I read folders from the network (LAN) some of the files/folders are missing, in music, movies and photos. It is blocks of files in order for example no music between F and M, missing about 20 albums, no photos in a folder from 25-50.jpg, the rest are all there, this shows up on the movie wall too? Is there a limit to number of files and folder it can show?

Cheers

I've just bought another Mini for a friend and want to test out this Mede8ter firmware on his, before messing with my perfect one. Can someone point me to the latest firmware and guide how to do this, thanks. Will i need to update the firmware from the box, or straight to mede8ter??

Links to the firmware:

Playon!HD Mini

I believe that your mini needs an sdk3 firmware before the mede8er firmware will install, but I could be wrong. To install, load firmware to the root of a pen drive, insert to your unit and with the mini switched off, hold the front panel power button for 15 seconds and release. The update should start within 30 seconds.

Just go straight to the mede8er firmware and see how you get on.

Yeah, i went back to the owners thread part 1 and read through. I've the Mede8ter firmware installed now. It went straight on, out of the box.

To be honest, i'm not overly impressed, here's my opinions:

- It's really hard to see what movie is highlighted. It is wasn't for the name or address above i wouldn't be able to see it.
- In Media library, when pressing ok on the movie, it doesn't start playing a preview for you, you have to scroll down to the movie for the preview to start playing.
- Scrolling through the video wall takes nearly 3 seconds per page, not exactly slick.
- (* As they are 200 pixels wide (200x296), i don't know whether resizing to 156px will improve speed?!?!)
- It would take some time to get to movies starting with "M"
- The genre covers for shortcuts are useless, really low quality. Has anyone tried their own cover art images??

Hitting enter goes straight to the film for me, so i would need to have the moviesheets renamed to about.jpg, not 0001.jpg.

As all my movies are on an external HDD, labelled Jukebox/movies/new or watched. Keypresses are:

AC Ryan:
Enter-USB-Jukebox-Movies-New

Mede8ter:
Right-Enter-Video Wall-Shortcut-New

Since i've been fannying around with firmware, i thought i'd look into new templates for thumbgen. I notice on WDTV there's some templates that have "cover trickle". Do those sheets work with thumbgen on the Mini?

Taurus35 IMDb Revolution Movie Sheets.

When viewing your movie collection on the videowall, you dont need to scroll through each movie individually. I use my harmony remote so I cant remember what button it is on the mini remote, but there is a button that will skip the page that will help you scroll through your movies much faster.

I have no problems seeing which movie is highlighted on my videowall, the selected item is clearly highlighted in blue.

If you look over at the mede8er forum, there are loads of high quality custom genre images. Havent used them myself but they do look much better than the standard icons.

Remember that you video wall can only be 2 folders deep if you want thumbgen to work e.g having the shortcut set at 'movies', then browsing to 'new', then the individual movie folder wont work correctly. The correct pathe would be the shortcut at 'new -> Individual movie folder. Hope ive picked you up correctly and that my explanation makes sense!

You will need to rename your moviesheets to about.jpg but just make a copy of your 0001.jpg and rename, that way it isnt a hassle if you switch back to the oem firmware.
