Bought my BD Rom, downloaded DVDFab (there are so many versions - I got DVDFab 8) and started ripping.

It seems to be working. I haven't changed any settings. Can I be sure I am getting bit perfect copies, with nothing stripped out? It seems almost too good to be true!

Leaving the original disk still in the BD ROM drive, find the BD ROM drive under "My Computer", select all the files on the drive, right-click and select Properties. This should show you the total file size. Compare this with the size of the rip. The size should be the same, or thereabouts.

Mine turned up late last night, shucks, those poor home delivery drivers work late.

It works very well, though it's begun to sprout slimy green legs and defiantly wants to speak to me in Flemish.

Just listening to some Beetles @ the moment.... Oh! its got a operators manual + cd, which I've not look @....

Some folk might be interested in the fact that it plays files from my Panasonic SD 700 (1920x1080 50p) smoothly, sd card plugged in the front.

It's HDMI'd to my Denon 3080, which is HDMI'd to a Sharp 46" Aquos...It takes content from my Qnap server

IT WORKS

Regards
Peter

Good news and bad for my photo viewing concerns:-

Quote:
When browsing by thumbnail it takes approximately 20 seconds to full a 10x3 screen with thumbnails which is disappointingly slow I think. That said this time drops to less than a second the next time you display them, clearly underlying the importance of specifying a cache location when you configure the Neo.
As with video cover art it would be great if the Neo could do this caching during a scan rather then do it on the fly when you come to actually view your photo collection.
It's great it takes less than a second on subsequent views, but 20 seconds to show a page of photos is rubbish! There needs to be a scan option to go away and pre-render all the thumbs for the cache

That review was written a few months back so maybe they've addressed that now. Basically, it takes time because it has to "shrink" all the photos down to thumbnail size to display them.

Wonder what form the cache takes? If it's as simple as resized versions of the original photos it would be very easy to write a PC application to go through your original photos and render the thumbs ready for the NTV550 to use! This is basically what I do with XTPhotos on the XTreamer to make it super quick!

However, if the cache is a big splog of encrypted/encoded data then we're stuffed!

Anyone got a Dune Prime or Base to make a comparison, this looks an interesting player and a good price.

I have not had a Netgear product before is there support any good for updating their players in cases of codec or recent BR changes as has happened with Avatar.

Hi,

for ripping your bluray collection use

freeware - while package ( can do .ISO blurays too using imgburn)
clownbd.com

I have a Prime 3 but have not had Netgear so cannot compare. the Dune is the best for network streaming from you NAS and works fine for me.

more info check out user feedback on
Netgear ntv550 - MPC Club Community Board

Thanks

I don't like the sound of no heatsink on the processor.

I suspect they might have run one or two tests on it

You'd hope so. I'll be getting one either way, but I'm just a bit concerned after someone measuring it at 88°C, if that is accurate of course.

Perhaps they do what the Samsung BD players do and direct the heat out of the bottom of the player so no heat sink is needed.

NTV550-100UKS just arrived in stock at LambdaTek £148.46 in total, i.e., £139.65 plus £8.81 next day delivery (England & Wales). Think P&P a bit much though! Couldn't see a cheaper delivery option other than next day.

NTV550-100UKS Netgear NEO TV 550 - .

Hope of use to someone..

Should I go for it if I want to playback BD-ISO. And just as importantly -What size storage do people use/suggest I buy for BD .iso backups?

And any downsides to this media player noted yet, apart from melting away in the heatwave next July ?

Regards Humphrey
