I now want to put these MKV's back onto DVD R to play on their DVD player as some of the original discs are starting not to play. I have tried AVI2DVD and seem to convert them fine. I am struggling with getting them to play on the DVD player though.

I have looked at numerous online guides and the conversion process is not the problem. Its when I burn them onto the DVD is where I seem to need help. The DVD player says it can not play the disc. I have tried this on several players round the house. Anyone got any tips or advise? The kids are going mental without Aladin and I begrudge having to buy it again (I know, I'm that tight!!).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
you want to check out this freeware guides-

AVCHD on a DVD will only play back on a BluRay player - and only if the BDP is AVCHD compatible.
You should get approx 20 minutes of AVCHD footage on a SL DVD.

To be playable on a standard DVD player you would need to downconvert the footage to SD and convert it to MPEG-2 and authore the footage so it is in the Video_TS folder structure etc.

Mark.

How about using,, convertXtoDVD which i use,, for those that need dics...or Avi2Dvd,,

Download Avi2Dvd v0.6.2 (freeware) - AfterDawn: Software downloads

it converts mkv,, or buy a cheap media player...such as this..

Designer Habitat Nano 3.0 - HD TV Digital Mini Media: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics

and just add,, I use verbatium? discs from sainsburys,, often on special offers,, and burn at the lowest speed,, you can bear.. 4x or less..

I have encouraged people to get a blu ray player that can handle mkv,,

or there again convert to avi,, and you can have 3 or 4 movies on a disc,, and most inexpensive dvd players play avi/divx,, thats the way i used to do it...for my kids disney flicks,, and it was superb.. but they grow up fast.. !!!

MKV Converter,MKV to AVI Converter-Convert MKV to AVI,MP4,etc

Mods, would it be possible to insert two placeholders after my first guides please? Got 2 more guides to do before they're finished, tsmuxer and bdclown (started using these two again and hardly ever use makemkv now due to issues with TV series ripping out of order and subtitle problems).

I don't think I can, I've not tools to insert posts. Best I could do would be to make a copy of your first posts and you add to the copy and we make it a new stickie.

Good idea, almost 800 posts anyway. I'll let you know when it's done

Quick question.

I have just ran makemkv for the first time and then noticed this thread!!

In using VLC the subtitles have defaulted as on. Is that normal or something I have done in the makemkv setting perhaps??

A very quick Google turned up the following...

Quote:
Settings --> preferences (or just ctrl+s)

Video --> subtitles/OSD

Now unclick the box next to "autodetect subtitle file"
And

Quote:
Note: Certain video formats like MKV can sometimes have subtitles enabled even though there isn’t a separate subtitles file. This is why you need to remove “Enable sub-pictures” as well, which totally disables the on-screen text. You can choose to only uncheck the autodetecting of subtitles instead if you’d prefer.
/Craig

I ripped mine by blowing the dust off my old xbox HD DVD drive, plugging that into my laptop and used MakeMKV as normal

If you have enough discs, might be worth paying a tenner on ebay for a xbox 360 HD DVD drive

What / whose method did you use? I've been struggling to get my sorted, particularly when trying to preserve the DD+ soundtrack and chapters.

For HDDVD use MakeMKV and your XBox 360 HDDVD drive if you're not worried about pulldown.

If you want 24fps files then you can to use either ClownBD or HDBRStreamextract to demux (both of these use Eac3to as their underlying engine) and then I use MKVToolnix to remux to an MKV file.

You can choose your video, audio and chapters files to remux with. One thing I tend to do is where the chapters have actual names I edit the Chapters text file with these before remux.

Has anyone been able to rip the Blu-ray from the 'Senna' Triple Play package? I've tried using a variety of methods, and the TS file I end up with always has no video and a soundtrack which is clearly not that of the main movie. (The disc includes a number of playlists but I always select the one with the same running time as the main feature).

I've tried using both To NMT and ClownBD with the same results. Any ideas from anyone who's done this successfully?

you're probably trying to rip encrypted bd without proper decryptor.

Assuming you're running something like AnyDVD HD, open up the (original) disc structure, navigate to the stream folder, and play a couple of the individual m2ts streams to locate the correct file.

That said, I have had this happen with one disc recently which was Legion. Remuxed it twice with the same result - incorrect video stream. The movie opens with the director talking which I assume is a PiP track. In the end, despite having picked the correct file to remux in the first place, I just ripped the whole disc.

I'm using AnyDVD 6.8.8.0, which should be the latest version. Browsing the disc manually, the BDMV/STREAM folder looks very strange. If I highlight any of the 132 .m2ts files (totalling 42.2 GB) Windows (7) Explorer gives the frame size as 720 x 480. Some of the files - mainly the smaller ones - play OK in Windows Media Player and seem to contain copyright notices, but the rest seem to have audio but no video...

some bd movies can have multiple m2ts files for main movie. you can use bdinfo to verify it!

Which program rips bluray episodes easily?

Storage

Smurf you said your movie collection was around 22.5TB, how have you got that stored? and on what? and I'm guessing achieving that capacity is going to cost quite a bit.

I'm using two 6-drive Netgear ReadyNAS. Not cheap, but I like their support. This gives me protection against drives failing, but it does not protect me from losing data due to fire or flooding, for example. THe only secure way of backing up your data is to store it offsite.

Started with a 4-drive Infrant (bought by Netgear), made the mistake of buying a 4-drive Thecus (cheap, but the firmware hasn't been updated for over 3-years) and then moved to the intel-based ReadyNAS.

When you're looking for NAS make sure that they support 3TB drives (the SPARC-based ReadyNAS can't). If they don't then you may well find yourself having to upgrade sooner than you'd hope, adding to the cost.

Smurf has another thread with the details of his media storage - Smurf's monster 40TB unRAID NAS build

For HD-DVDs, use ToNMT or ClownBD - Clown especially will turn the HD-DVD into a bluray folder structure.

MakeMKV, with the caveat that you need to watch the opening few frames of each episode from the disc itself, to make sure your naming is correct.

Other than that TV series is a royal PITA. I recently bought The Pacific and as storage isn't really an issue, I simply ripped the whole disc via AnyDVD HD to a folder structure. Storage shouldn't be an issue for you either
