modulo 8

All dimensions should be modulo 8 (AFAIK). divisible by eight.
1920/8= 240
1916/8 = 239.5 (sends the internals into frenzy)

New to WDTV Live. Got confused with the WDTV thread and misposted.

My questions:

I've got the video set to Autoplay, my thoughts were that when you look at the Terminator 2 folder and click the Play button, the film should start (without having to open the folder and scroll to the video file).
Instead though it plays the folder.jpg image which is obviously not what I want to do. I thought about making the folder.jpg a hidden file, but not sure if it would affect the thumbnail on the folder or not.
Any ideas?

Also, anyone had any ideas on setting up a Harmony remote for this? Trying to make it Mrs G friendly, and it's just a few too many clicks for my liking.
Want to have a Video button on my remote and have it open the NAS straight off and take all the necessary steps, but it doesn't seem to start on the same menu item each time so no consistency. Help!

I had the same issues mate, I posted in here much a few weeks ago about it.
I've set mine to something like:
(once its turned the WDTV on) > go to videos > right > down > right > up > right > up blach blah......
....but as you said it tends to end up somewhere different each time.

I think i/you need to add some delay between each signal so it can catchup effectively.

I have my Live online and networked. It works great (just had to connect ethernet cable and it found my network and files). I took of a shared folder on the pc but the folder still appears in network shares. Is there any way to reset the shared folders on the WD and get rid of the one I unshared?

edit.

Managed to do it in file management. I was cautious though as I thought it might delete off the pc too.

I'm enjoying my WDTV Live (shame about the non-HD YouTube), but what would be a good and compatible NAS or Sharebook to use with the WDTV Live? I'm looking for a 2TB NAS and it has to be fast, cool running, quiet and very reliable? Are the WDTV NAS's good? Do they work well with the WDTV Live?

Lastly, do ALL media players now have to obey YouTube and can only stream non HD video from YouTube, or can some still stream in HD from the site?

Thank you guys!

Avoid the WD NAS's, there are better out there, stick to QNAP, Synology, Netgear, Thecus etc. A touch more expensive but better. Any of the budget models in any of their ranges would be fine.

I use a dual bay Dlink DNS 323

I got it 3 years ago give or take, it started with 500gig drives, then 1tb, and now I am about to buy 2 tbs for it.

Not the cheapest, but its a scalable solution.

Buy bigger drive each time and upgrade that way.

I have a Netgear Router... which Netgear NAS would you recommend for an Ethernet network attached to my WDTV Live and Dell Dimension PC ?

Thanks

Are NAS drives what WD call Media Servers?

I connected my Live by hardwired and was pleased that my network shares showed up straight away with no more work. I can now stream my DVD's, MP3's and DVB mpegs over the wireless/wire.

I was quite impressed with the youtube quality despite not being HD anymore. I don't see myself using the net side of things much as it is networking that interests me. It saves me having to connect a USB drive.

Nope, a media server is a piece of software that sits on your pc or on your NAS with the sole purpose of serving up media. Its an alternative method to the likes of netowrk shares or nfs etc.

If you like Netgear stuff then the readynas duo will do the job. Its has a good community of users behind it and lots of add on software available to get the most out of it.

Yes, because the WD TV Live has no storage & the NAS can store all your media to view any time (without having a PC etc turned on)

Any kind of drive plugged into the WD TV Live can be shared over your network.

What WD need to do is enable USB hub support.
How stupid can they get? A hard disk manufacturer making a device that will not allow multiple hard disks to connect?
The custom firmware allows that without a glitch...

I'm thinking of buying a WDTV Live for my parents - they have a CRT TV so I will use the component or composite cables...if I then play a MKV file with DTS sound, will the WDTV Live downmix the DTS and play it through the component/composite cables to the CRT TV? Or does it only do this with an HDMI cable?

Thanks!

It will downmix it to 2 channel through the stereo out. This would be the red/white phono outs. You then use stereo out in the audio options.

Component and composite is video only so you will need two sets of cables on it.

Thanks for the helpful and speedy reply - that was another thing I didn't quite understand...the back of the WDTV Live seems to one output for component and one output for composite (presume both are for video), so how do I transfer the sound from the WDTV Live to the CRT TV?

Or do the composite/component cables you get with the WDTV live have one plug at the end that attaches to the WDTV Live and then the yellow/red/white plugs at the other end of the lead (to connect to the TV)?

EDIT - looks like the latter - http://images.kenwood.eu/files/image...al/CA-C3AV.jpg

Good to know that DTS will be fine using this cable, looks like I'll be ordering one! Cheers again :D

You have to connect two cables for component. One for the component from the YPbPr output and the other is a red/white cable for the audio.

The AV output is for composite and also has red/white so only one cable is needed.

Component PQ is much better than composite. I got shimmering on the graphics wih composite.

You get all the cables you need with it.

I got one of these the other day. I am having trouble with networking the device to my computers. I can get media shares to work, but network drives won't connect, sometimes saying wrong password sometimes saying can't connect. its probably been covered before, but does anyone have any ideas?

No idea about that.

What OS do you have and does it see the shares at all? If it says wrong password that suggests it does see them?

I have Win7 and WinXP, and also a network drive on my router. It can see all of the drive shares, but just wont connect - always the same error message for the pc's (invalid username or password) and network share can not be accessed for the routers shared drive.

I dont have passwords on any of the shares and have set the wdtv to automatically log on.

Does the Tenda wireless adapters work with the latest official firmware or is the custom firmware needed.

Are there any cheap N (300) adaptors compatible?

e.g. GetNet GN-621U Wireless 802.11n USB Adapter

Secondly, has anyone used it as a cheap NAS server? Does it need to be switched on? (Presumably)

Also is it capable of bistreaming Dolby True HD/DTS Master HD or decoding it?

Can it do DD 5.1/DTS over HDMI? Somewhere I read it's only 2.0??
