Sumvision Cyclone MKV - Loging on to windows 7

Hey Everyone,

I have just purchased a sumvision cyclone mkv player, which via USB is stunning. Flawless 1080p playback and looks great!

I am having real troubles trying to set up the lan playback however.

Everytime I set up the details I just get the error message saying logon failed which I guess is some kind of authentication error with windows 7.

It asks for username / password / and IP address. The IP address is 100% correct so I know thats not the problem, so I am guessing its the username part.

The main account on the windows pc is simply Scott, and the pc name is Scott-PC.

I have tried the usernames:

Scott-PC\Scott
Scott
scott-pc\scott

And also set up a new windows account called cyclone and tried the following usernames:

Scott-PC\cyclone
cyclone
scott-pc\cyclone

None of the above work unfortunately.

Other PC's on the network access the shares fine.

Can any one shed any further light on this? I cant wait to get this box up and running, and people have confirmed it runs with windows 7 so I know its possible!

Thanks for any help in advance.

The Sumvision Cyclone is a Realtek player, the Realtek SDK has a compatibility issue with Windows 7 network shares.

A fix is or was in the works I think Asus deployed it on their player but then pulled it I cant recall. I dont know if Sumvision have also added the fix so I think the problem could still be there.

If you want to stream from your PC in the mean time I'd suggest checking out a DLNA server like Twonky.

What you could try is when you share out a folder select share with specific people and select everyone then select read/write access for that user and see if it still prompts for a user pass on that network share when you browse to it in the Sumvision network browser.

Thanks for your reply, I would prefer not to use UPNP just due to the supported media files.

It uses the samba client if that makes any difference.

To quote another post: "I just created a user called mkvplayer and set a password, then entered those details into the cyclone rather than creating a guest login as the manual suggests. It worked in the office and at home fine"

So it seems someone has managed to get this going.

You can see the options I have available in the attached screenshot.

Not sure why it would need a hostname with an IP address too... but added just incase.

It must be something to do with the username/password combo I am guessing, but not sure how to debug or find further information as to whats happening.

Thats the network shortcut feature, can you access the network shares by going through the network browser ?

You should see in the media browser section, for USB/UPnP etc a Network section.

Also Twonky supports pretty much everything bar ISO over UPnP.

Hey,

Have been playing with Twonky and upnp over the weekend... I am very surprised how good it is. I though it was some kind of windows media player shared solution, but you are right it plays everything great.

Appreciate your suggestion and now have the player working great.

My only gripe with the upnp solution is having to manually rescan content (unless you leave the twonky app open) and also the folder structure is quite deep to get to video content.

Other than that its great, and thanks for the suggestion!

Yeah the deep folder nesting of Twonky is annoying, when going into videos you can shorten the step so instead of...

By Date, By Name, By Folder etc and you having to move down to By Folder it just shows only "By Folder".

What you need to do is to access the original Twonky config so go into Twonky Media Manger then into "Server Settings" and look for IP address listed next to "Network Interfaces".

The open up web browser and type in the IP address like so (replacing my example) http://192.168.1.3:9000/config

This will bring you to the Twonky configuration page, look under "Basic Setup" "Sharing" there you will see your shared folders, for folders holding videos change the content type to "All content types" then save changes.

Now click on the "First Steps" section and you will find a "Navigation Tree" setting change it to "By Folder" then click save changes then click on restart server.

After that you can close web browser and when you go to Twonky Server in Sumvision it should navigate like this
Twonky
Video
By Folder
Your folder listings

As for the problem on having the Twonky media manager open that doesn't sound right Twonky should have installed a service which runs all the time so the app doesn't need to be open.

Try uninstalling Twonky then re-install and choose advanced install instead of express and make sure Twonky service is selected.

Thanks for taking the time to type all that up... thats a great help. Just sorted the web admin side of things and will try the reinstall later today. It still runs with the manager closed, it just doesnt seem to auto-rescan, that was the problem.

Anyway I appreciate all your help on this matter... shows how good these forums can be

The web admin has a setting that controls the auto scan as well though I never toyed with it.

Found it!

"-1 enables the server to watch content directories automatically for new content without the need for rescans"

That looks like the perfect answer...

Don't even bother trying to get Windows7 network connection to work UNLESS you're on this firmware:

cyclonemkvE_V1_EU2_WIN7FIX+EU1update

This is for the enclosure version.
I've spent several hours before that, and a simple firmware upgrade and the networking magically started to work.

This is step 1.

Step 2 and on....involves the sharing of the actual files, etc....

Logging on to Win 7 with Cyclone MKV Enclosure v2

I also have spent many time loops trying to log-in, and in the end have had to burrow into the Registry. It seems that Win7 does not like (understandably) anonymous or basic devices having unrestrained access to your OpSys, but the Cyclone really is such a device, and needs a bit of encouragement. If you are behind a router, that will in itself be a pretty solid wall against the kinds of intrusion that are worrying from the wider world - that is how I look at it!

I found myself unable to log-in whatever I did (and I have been using versions 2 and 3 of the firmware updates). I looked around and have cobbled together advice from a couple of other related forums, after which it was easy to access folders and files set up to share in Win7. Also, the Cyclone does not like apostrophes in names of folders or files, though Win7 doesn't mind them.

So this works for me, but of course I cannot be responsible etc. - I'm sure I don't understand the full implications of these Registry switches.

***

This works in windows 7 tested ::
MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\ :-
1. On the right side Double Click on everyoneincludesanonymous and in the window that pops up, change the value data from a 0 value to a 1
2. Double Click on NoLmHash and in the window that pops up, change the Value Data from a 1 value to a 0
3. Navigate to the following location in the registry editor :- MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanManSe rver\Parameters
1. Double Click on restrictnullsessaccess and change the 1 value to a 0
NOTE: There is no need to "save" these changes, as you make changes to the registry it is saved automatically.
2. Close the registry editor and restart the computer.
3. Once the PC restarts don't forget to update your available network shares on your O!Play by using your remote to navigate the onscreen menu to Refresh, once Refresh is selected press enter.
* * *
Just one more thing: I've spent a lot of time because it seemed not to be working. But the trick is easy: when it asks for username and password, simply press OK leaving all fields blank

1. Enter “gpedit.msc” in the Start Search box.
2. Open “Computer Configuration”/Windows Settings/Security Settings/Local Policies/Security Settings.
3. In the right pane, enable the following policies:

Network access: Allow anonymous SID/name translation
Network access: Let Everyone permissions apply to anonymous users

Also please disable the following policies.

Network access: Restrict anonymous access to Named Pipes and Shares
Network access: Do not allow anonymous enumeration of SAM accounts
Network access: Do not allow anonymous enumeration of SAM accounts and shares

[...possibly not needed]
If you manage to get into your local PC from the player but still being ask for password at the shared folder level, you have to do the follow :

1. Open control panel, and select ‘Network and Internet’
2. Click on ‘Network and Sharing Center’
3. Click on ‘Change Advanced Sharing Settings’ on the left hand side
4. Select "Turn off password protected sharing"

Hope this is useful!
