I also have spent many time loops trying to log-in, and in the end have had to burrow into the Registry. It seems that Win7 does not like (understandably) anonymous or basic devices having unrestrained access to your OpSys, but the Cyclone really is such a device, and needs a bit of encouragement. If you are behind a router, that will in itself be a pretty solid wall against the kinds of intrusion that are worrying from the wider world - that is how I look at it!
I found myself unable to log-in whatever I did (and I have been using versions 2 and 3 of the firmware updates). I looked around and have cobbled together advice from a couple of other related forums, after which it was easy to access folders and files set up to share in Win7. Also, the Cyclone does not like apostrophes in names of folders or files, though Win7 doesn't mind them.
So this works for me, but of course I cannot be responsible etc. - I'm sure I don't understand the full implications of these Registry switches.

This works in windows 7 tested ::
MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\ :-
1. On the right side Double Click on everyoneincludesanonymous and in the window that pops up, change the value data from a 0 value to a 1
2. Double Click on NoLmHash and in the window that pops up, change the Value Data from a 1 value to a 0
3. Navigate to the following location in the registry editor :- MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanManSe rver\Parameters
1. Double Click on restrictnullsessaccess and change the 1 value to a 0
NOTE: There is no need to "save" these changes, as you make changes to the registry it is saved automatically.
2. Close the registry editor and restart the computer.
3. Once the PC restarts don't forget to update your available network shares on your O!Play by using your remote to navigate the onscreen menu to Refresh, once Refresh is selected press enter.

Just one more thing: I've spent a lot of time because it seemed not to be working. But the trick is easy: when it asks for username and password, simply press OK leaving all fields blank
1. Enter “gpedit.msc” in the Start Search box.
2. Open “Computer Configuration”/Windows Settings/Security Settings/Local Policies/Security Settings.
3. In the right pane, enable the following policies:
Network access: Allow anonymous SID/name translation
Network access: Let Everyone permissions apply to anonymous users
Also please disable the following policies.
Network access: Restrict anonymous access to Named Pipes and Shares
Network access: Do not allow anonymous enumeration of SAM accounts
Network access: Do not allow anonymous enumeration of SAM accounts and shares
[...possibly not needed]
If you manage to get into your local PC from the player but still being ask for password at the shared folder level, you have to do the follow :
1. Open control panel, and select ‘Network and Internet’
2. Click on ‘Network and Sharing Center’
3. Click on ‘Change Advanced Sharing Settings’ on the left hand side
4. Select "Turn off password protected sharing"
Hope this is useful!
