Which Media Player for MKVs

New TV is coming tomorrow (P42G10) so need something to play mkvs and put the audio through Philips DVD home theatre system HTS3357.
Anything with or without an hard drive, so not fussy and not to bothered about streaming.I was thinking of waiting for a BD390(ntfs) so your input would be helpful.
Cheers
Joe

Re: Which Media Player for MKVs

IMHO WDTV Live is the king right now both for performance, convenience and price.

Re: Which Media Player for MKVs

The HTS3357 only has a digital coax input, so you will need an optical to coax converter to get 5.1 surround from the WD TV Live. Maplins sell converters.
Alternatively look at the AC Ryan.

Was going to start a new thread but this one came up in the similar threads bit.

What would people recommend as a way to play mkv and high resolution video files in 2011? I have a PS3 but it cannot play mkvs so looking for something else.

Thanks.

The new updated WDTV Live HD is a good media player, it has BBC iPlayer as well and Netflix. The version linked below (note apperance). Dabs and Argos sell for £79.99

Wait a few weeks if you can new SOC are coming out, faster and better ones than the current crop. Will handle 3D too if that is relevant for you. The Sigma SMP8910 is such a chip, when out the door many media players will use it.
In the meantime you need to know that WD players cannot handle DTSHD sound, if that is aconcern of yours, but players from HDI Dune (same chip) handle that well.
I would wait still until the new crop comes out if I was you.
