Help Badly Needed - TVIX-M6500A Network Media Player

Anybody please?

I could really do with some help on this. I've spent hours reading through the full manual for my TivX 6500 and I've spent 2 days surfing the web for solutions. Still come up empty handed.

In 'Network Settings' on the set-up page, the default setting is set to "Wired" and the 'WiFi' option is blacked out. I've tried every conceivable way to re-enable the Wifi - but to no effect? The latest firmware has been updated.

Can someone please help with this? I've seen a few other posts here about it - but no solutions. I'm banging my head off a very solid wall at this stage. TivX customer support is non existant and the FAQ on their website is crap. I've sent them a mail - but nothing yet. Really appreciate any help.

Thanks,
Comfortably Numb.

Re: TVIX-M6500A Network Media Player(M6500A)

Sorry to ask the obvious... But you do have a compatible Wifi adaptor connected? The TViX-M6500A doesn't have built-in Wifi, at least mine doesn't.

There's one on KJ Global's site here, but it's not wireless N so I'm wondering how well they would perform? Far better to go the Network Homeplugs route IMHO.

Mark.

Re: TVIX-M6500A Network Media Player(M6500A)

Hi Mark,

Thanks for responding. Yep, I have a compatible Linksys WUSB54GC connected - I did my homework on this and I wouldn't exactly be a novice when it come to technology (i.e. I work in IT) hence why this thing is driving me insane.

According to the TivX manual, wireless is achieved in the same way as all PnP - have the Tivx turned off, connect the wireless USB, ensure your router is on and Tivx Netshare is active, turn the Tivx on, go to 'Network Settings', select the default as 'Wireless', scan the network, enter a few details and happy days.

I've done all this a hundred times, added the latest fireware, restored factory settings etc., but still the default network setting is 'Wired' and there is no option to change it?

Head - Concrete wall - Banging.

Can anyone help?

I've been hunting around for you and found This HowTo on KJ Global's site.

It seems that DHCP is the key!

Re: TVIX-M6500A Network Media Player(M6500A)

Hi Mark,

Thanks for your hunting and suggestions

I've tried you suggestion a gazillion times previously, but to no avail. I thought it might have been DHCP also but its looking less likely now. The fact still remains that no matter what I try from any of these forums or Tivx's website - the WiFi Option is still greyed out and un-selectable from the network setting options. "Wired" is still the default network and it appears it can't be changed (for the want of a hammer).

I'll give it till the end of the week to see what/if TivX say on this - and then I'm afraid the M-6500A will be going back to the shop it came from - sadly enough.

Thanks for trying at least.

Re: TVIX-M6500A Network Media Player(M6500A)

Hi Talas,

Cheers for that. I spoke to a few people in MPCCLUB - it seems a lot of people have had the same issue as me (some had bigger issues) with the Tivx. Had I read any of that forum previously, I doubt I would have ever gone for the TivX - probably would have gone for the newer PH. It's more user friendly.

TivX support is 100% non-existant - and this really bugs me. I've signed up on their website and posted two messages, sent three emails and phoned them once. Might as well be trying to contact the dead I'd probably have more luck.

To any newby looking or thinking about getting a TivX - on my experience alone I'd say 'stay well clear of it' - unless of course you're happy to continually unplug it from primary position, bring it upstairs and connect it to you PC via USB to transfer media on a regular basis. ('Wired' was never an option for me due to the layout of my house and the huge distance between PC and TivX).

Anyway - all the best.
