Outputting via HDMI and Optical/Phono

Hi

do any of the latest media streamers enable you to output the video via HDMI and also have the audio output by either the optical or phono outputs.

I want to have the hdmi going to a wall mounted projector, then the audio going to a set of speakers/soundbar on the opposite wall

any suggestions. It's a bit of tight budget as I've already got the projector from a year ago, and don't want to go to the expense (and space/wiring mess) of a new av amp

cheers

Mat

Yes, nearly all of them (if not all) have an optical as well as phono output. I've currently got my icybox outputting audio to the amp via the optical cable, and video to the TV via HDMI.

You will have the change the settings from the default (which is usually audio via HDMI)

Check the websites, the specifications will show you the outputs.

yep - I think this is normal as many people dont have HDMI amps and need to use optical to get the sound signal there. I do this using Popcorn Hour where the TV is connected via HDMI and optical to the amp.

Re: Outputting via HDMI and Optical/Phono

Thanks for that. It's just that hisense users say that you can only have one enabled on their units e.g hdmi but not phono. Just interested in which models can pipit on multiple outputs

cheers

Sorry Mat, I misunderstood your question in the Hisense thread. Yes, you *can* have the video on HDMI and the audio via the optical on the Hisense box. What you can't have is the audio on both HDMI and optical simultaneously. The audio setup lets you choose either HDMI or Optical, but this is independant of where the video is routed.

thanks for clarifying that. Is that the same with the phono outputs on the Hisense box - don't really want to use phono, but it depends on which soundbar/speaker set I get. i.e I can use HDMI for video and Phono for sound

Yup, you get stereo sound on the phonos even if you have sound and video over HDMI (probably even if you have set up sound over the Optical, but I havn't tested that).

Re: Outputting via HDMI and Optical/Phono

This is how the Sumvision Cyclone works here.

HDMI video to PC monitor, sound to separate sound system.

Re: Outputting via HDMI and Optical/Phono

another quick question. For those media streamers such as the Hisense which have two USBs, can you transfer files from one usb to the other e.g a pen drive to a hard disk ?

I basically don't want to be disconnecting the hard disk each time that I want to copy a movie across to it (and it's not going to networkable), so if I could put the movie on a usb stick put it into the streamer usb socket then copy that to the hard disc attached to the other streamer usb socket, that would be good

any of them do this ?

cheers

Mat
