Streaming via obsolete games consoles, or other cheap solutions?

I have a MythTV machine in the living room, but I want to be able to watch TVs and other videos in my bedroom. I've got a small TV; unfortunately at the moment I can't afford even the £100 for a cheap media streamer. Is there a way I can do it for under £50? I have an old PS2 (non-slimline), and it looks like I could pick up an XBox (not a 360, an original XBox) for very little on EBay, but everything I can find in my Google searches seems to indicate that I need a mod chip, and it looks like no-one sells those for these obsolete platforms any more.

I can program and administer a Linux system; I've never been very good at soldering but I've occasionally had success. I'm in London.

Thanks!

You can generally get an already modded (soft mod or otherwise) Xbox with XBMC for under £50 to be honest!

Ive seen this plugin that makes XBMC work as a frontend to your MythTv setup

An example post here on AvForums in the classifieds section, note that you can get one with quite a large Hard Drive for £50!

Hmm, not having much luck finding them, an eBay search for "xbmc" gives me no hits, should I be looking elsewhere?

Is it OK to use the XBox 360 classified section here for non-360 related requests? Silly question, I see that people use the top-level forum for these things.

thanks!
