Ur suggestions are welcome

Hi guys, I need your help with somethings I have on my mind. Well first of all which one will be better for my future set up. the Xtreamer or Popcorn hour 110.?

I currently have an Xbox 360 connected to my computer streaming to my tv thru HDMI, so far everything works ok, I get to see any file supported by the xbox which is very limited. I have about 2 HD movie wich are converted to VMWHD and to be honest I do notice the difference, however there isnt lots of movie in this format and I tried converting some MKV file to VMWHD but wow it takes forever to create it so I just rather stream my mkv movies. So thats where I need ur help which MNT should I go for.. so far i'm goin towards the PCH 110 because I see it gets better support from updates.

When i get the choosen MNT i will be getting and external hard drive. Maybe 2tb so i could just stream my movies from here instead of my computer. Other concern I have is how would I go with connecting the mnt to a Home theater system and still get the HD sounds? It wouldnt be worth it if i loose the real audio of an mkv movie.

By the way any suggestion on Home theater system that works well with let say Pch 110 or any in general

I'd go with the WDTV Live over those two, smaller, silent, easy to use, supports MKV's.

You can connect the WDTV Live to your sound system by two ways
A) Your sound system has a HDMI repeater link so the sound gets channeled through that.
B) You use the optical audio output to connect it to your sound system.

If your ripping your Blu-rays to an MKV file with the HD audio intact the WDTV Live will pass-through to your amp one or two of the HD audio formats but I cant recall the exact name. Note MKV is just a universal container it can hold any format, audio is not usually in HD...

Hey thnk you for your respond and Im actually lookin more info on the wdtv live as u suggested.. To be honest with you I really dont see the difference on the wdtv live and the popcorn 110 other then the capability of puttin a hard drive inside the PCH 110.. or is there any other difference? by the way what is the max hard drive size they both can hold.

Re: Ur suggestions are welcome

The WDTV Live uses a newer generation chip it can handle certain things the A110 cannot.

The WDTV Live cannot take an internal HD it has USB ports for external storage and a network port so it can read NAS or DLNA servers and play media from those.

The max hard drive depends on the method of connection if its a network NAS then it doesn't matter or what kind of file system it uses. If its over USB it depends on the file systems in use both devices support NTFS so the max 2TB hard drives currently available should work though I'd double check just in case.

Hey so basically if I stream it directly to from my computer It doesnt matter size of media it could stream, In that case I could get a Network storage drive rite?, Because In my computer I only have a 300GB and a 120GB hard drives but thats not enought for my future collection and I wouldnt want to store more Hard drives in my computer. But if i connect an External Hard drive to any of these streamers it would be better a 2tb? Sorry for asking so many questions I just want to get it rite and try to make the best choice. By the way can the WDTV live run any movie jukebox or Yamj because I was actually looking on youtube and those interfaces look amazing.

Re: Ur suggestions are welcome

The maximum file size for an individual file depends on the file system the old FAT32 file system only supports up to 4GB per file.

The NTFS file system has no such limitation so you can have a very large files stored on it. You computer if running windows is very likely to be using NTFS.

You can format a USB external hard drive in NTFS and it will work with either media player. By default most USB hard drives are formatted in FAT32 so you will have to format it to NTFS, just right click on the drive in explorer/computer and select format.

Network attached storage dedicated boxes tend to run a linux operating system and use the ext3 file system which like NTFS does not have a file size limitation so you can use large files with it.

In terms of low cost and ease of use get a USB hard drive because
A) You wont have to worry about network performance (its really needs to be wired ethernet to work optimally)
B) The WDTV Live can share out a USB hard drive over a network so you can copy files to the USB drive if you need to.
C) Its cheaper then buying a NAS but in the long run if your storage needs are not met than a NAS is a better choice.

The WDTV Live does not have a YAMJ feature but it does support coverart for movies just have a jpg in the same folder and it will use that e.g

Hey thnks again for all this info u r giving me. Im still making up my mind but I was actually looking on Network hard drives and How u can actually build one urself. I think Im gonna go with this option because I will be downloading lots of mkv movies and I want to have space. However one of my problem wit goin with NAS is that my router is in the living room and my tv is on my room.. My computer is also in my room and is running wifi.. and I had read a couple of times that streaming movies is not a good choice because of the performance .
