Pch/nas/yamj

Hello all,

I now have a popcorn hour a-110, a qnap 209 nas (2x1tb) and a 200mbps homeplug set up. The plan is to rip all my dvds and music to the nas and then either access it on the computer upstairs or via the tv and pch downstairs.

Some people have suggested using YAMJ for the pch, i read that this could be installed on the Nas so that my computer doesnt have to be turned on and also that if this approach is taken then ISO and vobs cannot be played. Is this still the case?

thanks

Re: Pch/nas/yamj

I think your getting a few things mixed up.

Myihome is a http streaming utility that doesn't support ISO's and video_ts folder structures. Yamj can be installed as part of myihome, but can also be used separately.

Yamj is not really installed, you run a utility on your PC which scans your media locations to produce a index and jukebox folder. This index file and jukebox folder can then be copied to your NAS, so your PC is only required for the scan. Once the scan is complete you just access the index file on your nas from the PCH to get the movie index with posters and details etc.

So you can use yamj with a NAS and your PCH.

ahh,

so i need to get both myihome and yamj on my pc, scan my nas for all the films and music, then copy the index back over to the nas. then just access that via the pch?

Re: Pch/nas/yamj

No you don't necessarily need myihome. Thats just popcorn hour's own software for easy access, but it can be limiting, I would just use yamj on its own.

How is your nas connected to your PCH, by a network share?

You want to download the latest version of yamj and if your using a windows machine the yamj gui tool, to make it easier to setup your scan locations.

There is a dummys guide to setup also, but sometimes it isn't always the appropriate way to set it up as the guide says, as thats for multiple network shares. You will probably not need to do all the winbolic stuff, as I assume you will only have one network share to your NAS.

Re: Pch/nas/yamj

right,

My nas is connected to a router which is then connected to a homeplug, then downstairs the pch is connected to the other homeplug. my internet and pc also connect to the router. I have been streaming films, so i know i have that bit set up right.

So then, I get the latest version of YAMJ and the GUI (on my pc) and point it at the film folder on my nas. this then builds a file which i copy back to the nas (assuming this has to be redone each time i add to my library). Reading through a few guides it talks about naming conventions, i have redone the x264 films on there but not sure on naming a dvdrip as an iso, is it name, year, type and format eg. "The.Devil's.Rejects.2005.DVDRIP.ISO"?

In the meantime I'm in the process of backing up my dvd collection. i have been doing this buy ripping with dvdfab, then converting to an iso using imgburn. I would like to remove some of the extras can this be done in dvdfab, or do i need to use dvd shrink?

Lastly i have copied a working iso across to my nas, the pch doesnt even see it, is this right?

many thanks for your assistance.

lastly i ha

Re: Pch/nas/yamj

Naming convention looks ok for isos.

With the yamj GUI you can actually set it to store the jukebox on the nas directly, save you copying it.

Are you using myihome or not? With the ISO not showing, I suspect you are. You want to create a network share pointing at the NAS on the PCH instead.

Not sure about stripping things out, I just use AnyDVD and imgburn the entire disk.

Re: Pch/nas/yamj

you were right, i just set up a share on the pch to point to the nas and the iso works, as an added bonus the flacs work which would have been my next question. a little dissapointed that you cant play a whole album in one go and jump from track to track, but one step at a time.

I shall have another go with the gui, it wrote a folder to the nas but didnt put anything inside of it. It looks like it wont scan.
