I wonder if he paid for that as well as buying himself out of a GBH charge?

Are you going to mention that every time Gerrard's name is raised in a thread?

Change the record mate or perhaps back up your constant snipes at the man with facts.

Congratulations on being so mature and putting forward such a balanced and well thought out argument for your unfounded hatred.

Re: Gerrard named Footballer of the Year award

Do they have a Young Player Of The Year award voted by the Football writers too? Cough, aherm ..... Stevie Ireland!

Gerrard has fully deserved this as he has truly dragged Liverpool forward to challenging for the title almost single handedly. A great number of goals scored from midfield and a tremendous winning attitude ... also performed pretty decent for England too.

Congrats to SG from a Man Utd fan.

I actually thought Darren Fletcher may have got a shout...true professional, never moans, unsung hero in many of Utd's game, just can't understand why some Utd fans don't rate him!

I suppose it's just one of those positions that never really gets the limelight. It still requires great skill and focus to stay in position, he's always organising those around him. Unfortunately utility players rarely get the credit they deserve.

@ Abbeygoo
It's strange but i rarely think of Ireland as a young player simply because he's been so instrumental in the good things happening at City and he plays such a big role. He just seems more mature than most other players at his age. He defintiely deserves some form of accolaid for his performances.

It does seem that way but Stevie Ireland is only 22 years old and has a promising future ahead of him.

I think it is deserved, lets face it, without him Liverpool are very short on ideas so yes, he did carry an average Liverpool side to lofty heights this year.

Re: Gerrard named Footballer of the Year award

Oh I am sure I will get loads of comments about what I said but I stand by it

I am sure even Liverpool supporters would agree that they do not have strength in depth. Take Torres and Gerrard out of the mix and they are struggling.

I think that Liverpool are 3-4 players away from a side capable of winning the premiership. There is talk of selling Alonso this summer, that would surely push them back.

Re: Gerrard named Footballer of the Year award

Not to sound biased being a Liverpool fan but I think Gerrard is a worthy winner. Although Alonso has had just as good a season, if not maybe a little better. Shame there isn't a league title to go with it.......

Worthy winner should of got the pfa award instead of giggs getting it which was a joke if we are all honest

now to the liverpool team are nothing without stevie g and torres
any team would miss the best striker in the world and any team would miss the best midfileder in the world take ronaldo out of the man u team and you rely on who to score your goals?????

Beat man u at home without them and a host of other clubs and they have only started 12 games together all season

Re: Gerrard named Footballer of the Year award

I think Gerrard is very overrated to be honest, then again so is every english footballer.

I can see it now, he'll go abroad then we'll all see how good he really is.

He'll move to a big team and be on the bench within six months.

They've all done it (english footballers)

I do agree with you, I'd prefer someone like Gerrard to Ronaldo, ronaldo is a ****, he does a few dances around the ball and thinks he's class.

Gerrard keeps his head down and is more solid a player than Ronaldo in my opinion.

Re: Gerrard named Footballer of the Year award

I'm a massive LFC fan and I do think that Steven Gerrard is Mr. Liverpool. He has contributed in very game he has played but he has missed a large portion of games. While I believe he does deserve the award I think on this occasion my vote would have gone to Alonso - key player and considering he was almost sold last summer, he has proven that he is a massive player for the club - but still well done Stevie G

Lets see.....Rooney, Park, Tevez, Carrick, Berba (when he feels like it), Giggs, Scholes etc

Anyway its not about who scores, its winning games that counts regardless who pops them in.

Nevermind Kop, finishing second in the league with the football writers football player of the year ain't bad.

Get out of it, I'm a Gooner and I think Gerrard is an outstanding player, easily one of the world's best.

He's certainly my favourite non-Arsenal player.
