Re: Gerrard named Footballer of the Year award

I wonder if he paid for that as well as buying himself out of a GBH charge?

Are you going to mention that every time Gerrard's name is raised in a thread?

Change the record mate or perhaps back up your constant snipes at the man with facts.

Congratulations on being so mature and putting forward such a balanced and well thought out argument for your unfounded hatred.

Re: Gerrard named Footballer of the Year award

Do they have a Young Player Of The Year award voted by the Football writers too? Cough, aherm ..... Stevie Ireland!

Gerrard has fully deserved this as he has truly dragged Liverpool forward to challenging for the title almost single handedly. A great number of goals scored from midfield and a tremendous winning attitude ... also performed pretty decent for England too.

Congrats to SG from a Man Utd fan.

I actually thought Darren Fletcher may have got a shout...true professional, never moans, unsung hero in many of Utd's game, just can't understand why some Utd fans don't rate him!

I suppose it's just one of those positions that never really gets the limelight. It still requires great skill and focus to stay in position, he's always organising those around him. Unfortunately utility players rarely get the credit they deserve.

@ Abbeygoo
It's strange but i rarely think of Ireland as a young player simply because he's been so instrumental in the good things happening at City and he plays such a big role. He just seems more mature than most other players at his age. He defintiely deserves some form of accolaid for his performances.

Re: Gerrard named Footballer of the Year award

It does seem that way but Stevie Ireland is only 22 years old and has a promising future ahead of him.

I think it is deserved, lets face it, without him Liverpool are very short on ideas so yes, he did carry an average Liverpool side to lofty heights this year.

Re: Gerrard named Footballer of the Year award

Oh I am sure I will get loads of comments about what I said but I stand by it

I am sure even Liverpool supporters would agree that they do not have strength in depth. Take Torres and Gerrard out of the mix and they are struggling.

I think that Liverpool are 3-4 players away from a side capable of winning the premiership. There is talk of selling Alonso this summer, that would surely push them back.
