Re: Premiership Player of the Season 08/09
Tough one. Couple of months ago I'd have said Vidic without doubt but not so sure now. Also difficult to look past Torres and Gerrard. Giggs worth a mention too....
My vote currently would go to Torres. (I'm a Man Utd fan too!)

Re: Premiership Player of the Season 08/09
im in complete shock that giggs is even an option, particularly for the PFA award. Torres has been a better player, but the reason he wasn''t nominated was due to him being injured. at least injury kept him out... giggs just didn't get in the team. he played 12 games and was involved in around 12 more (as a late sub).
same with van der sar. he's in there for his clean sheet record. during that time he made 1.5 saves a game on average. lots of keeprs could do that if they had such a good defence in front of them, who really should receive the credit

Re: Premiership Player of the Season 08/09
As much as I admire Giggs, I can't help thinking this award is more of a lifetime achievement accolade than the usual PFA award.
No-one has been head and shoulders above anyone else this year, but surely a player who has only started 12 games all season cannot be the best player of the year.
Congratulations to him though, he should have won it before now.
Ashley Young had a great start to the season, but for me Ireland has been the most consistent throughout the season and should have got it. (even though the little **** won't play for his country )

Re: Premiership Player of the Season 08/09
Obviously (for the young player award) I'll go for Stephen Ireland as he has been tremendous for us this season without much of a rest having started our season back in July in the UEFA Cup.
For the main player of the year award I think Rooney can consider himself unlucky not to be in the final six and I think it is really close this year. Having said that, I think the two best individual players are Torres and Gerrard this season and Gerrard just shades it for me.

Completely agree about Giggs. No one has been a better personification of the Premier league and a classier footballer over the span of their entire career but how on earth can he be player of the year?
They've reduced what should be a genuinely coveted trophy into a retirement carriage clock of an award. He shouldn't have even been on the shortlist ahead of Ireland, Lampard and Schwarzer imo.
On the criteria this award has been given out on, manager of the season would be Keegan.

I agree with others, Giggs only got that award because he had never won it before. A shame that this award has reduced to a mickey mouse trophy

agree with that, dont think Giggs has even been the best player in the man utd team so it doesnt make sense that he wins the best player award!

Re: Premiership Player of the Season 08/09
I wonder how Vidic feels with that decision, he has been immence this season and many United supporters I have spoken to felt he has been the difference this season.

Re: Premiership Player of the Season 08/09
Tho am glad Giggs won this I think he should have got it as the PFA Merit Award, that would have been more suited.
I would not be surprised that Giggs himself was bemused when finding out he won.

The travesty that giggs has not won this award before this year was a complete farce and a joke, but how can a player be awarded the pfa player of the year award after just starting 13(12 at the time of winning the award)was a farce 2 goals and 8 assists im a admirer of giggs always have been as a footballer but was really a farce this award
