Re: wembley cup

The tournament has yet to be announced officially to the press so it will take a couple of months yet before tickets go on sale. Its not until the last week in July so I would be surprised if the tickets were on sale before the start of June.

Re: wembley cup

It has been announced now, or at least the clubs have, compared to just the prweek article yesterday

Schedule is...
Friday 24th: Celtic vs Al Ahli, Tottenham vs Barcelona
Sunday 26th: Barcelona vs Al Ahli, Tottenham vs Celtic

I expect Tottenham will be selling their allocation themselfs, but no doubt there will be a seperate allocation for other fans which will be easier to get tickets via

Re: wembley cup

Hey,

Tickets are on sale now to members of the respective clubs (I've already got my tickets, come on Spurs!!)

Tickets come on general sale May 18th. Prices are £29 - £59 (Concession £20 - £50) for a one day ticket, and £50 - £100 (Concession £35 - £85) for a two day ticket.

There are two games on each day and a one day ticket is for both games on that day

All tickets are sold through ticketmaster, on behalf of Wembley stadium. Click here for tickets

Thanks...

Was looking at taking my son down to this, jubilee line shut on the sunday and parking £25. Typical rip of Wembley.

Think there be lucky to get 50k for each day.

Re: wembley cup

I won £50 at a poker game over weekend so feel like treating myself to the Friday evening game but not many seats left in Spurs section (dunno if there's likely to be any more batches of returned tickets at this late stage) so might've to sit with the Barca fans for a better view of the action...

At least Messi has returned to training a week early so hopefully get to see him play, as he's one Barca player i'm def a fan of

All 4 matches are live on Sky Sports:

I'll have to remember to V+ the 8pm game so I can see if I can spot myself in the crowd!

Re: wembley cup

Well had a bit of a mare getting to Wembley for Tottenham V Barcelona game last night as a lightning strike on Chiltern Trains line delayed my connecting train by 30mins so didn't arrive at Stadium till 7:40. Then just to top it off I was one of thousands of ticket holders who TicketMaster didn't post tickets to so there was another 30min delay as I queued up at Box Office (steward said there had been a big queue for 4 hours!) and missed warm-up and kick off

When we finally got to our seats we were treated to some great passing from the Barca youngsters in the first half and some rather rusty looking senior Spurs players. Spurs looked much better 2nd half when the youngsters came tho.

Had a good view of Luka Modric from Row 21 of Block 121 but a bit of a shame we didn't get to see Messi play as would've been great to see them both on same touchline to see how they comapare

Imho if the Wembley Cup is repeated maybe it should be put back a couple of weeks so that players are bit closer to match fitness. Or in Barca stars case, back from their holidays!

Re: wembley cup

Looks like its Celtic's cup this year.

Very disappointed in Spurs - appreciate that they may still buy other players and there are a few guys to come back in but there are a lot of 1st teamers on there today and most are pretty dire.

No great challenge from Spurs in the EPL this season again?

You're right, it's disappointing to lose to that rubbish.
Also laughable to see them celebrating like they'd won the CL, not a friendly cup where they didn't even play the best team competing!
It's just another example of their desire to join the EPL though.
They treat any game against English opposition as a chance to 'show' they can compete.
When we all know that over a season, they'd have next to no chance.
I say this as someone with over 20 years of watching the SPL too, so it's not a "typical south of the border retort".

Seriously, having 10 men behind the ball in a friendly game...
Unbelievable...
Did it really matter if they conceded?
They were defending like their lives depended on it.
A friendly cup...
HAHA!

Some players out, yes.
But also some players out there who probably know they are going to be sold.
I'm thinking Bent and Pavlyuchenko, for starters.
Certainly not trying their best, if they're resigned to leaving.

Quite simply, Celtic don't have the quality to compete in the EPL over a season.
Yes, they can raise themselves to beat 'whoever' on their day, but that's completely different from keeping that going over a whole season.
Unfortunately, deluded Celtic fans constantly point to single-game results against the likes of Man U and Tottenham as 'proof' that they could compete.
Absolute nonsense.
I mean, Aberdeen thrashed Copenhagen and drew with Bayern Munich last year.
Does this mean they're suddenly able to compete with these teams on a constant basis?
Hardly.

Hardly.
As I said, expand on the hypothetical theory

Last 3 years we've juggled a 9-10million budget from TV revenue for players and tried to compete at the top level -
qualifying for the group stages of the CL is as good as we could have hoped for.

Given that the also rans of the EPL have had budgets close to £100 million for the same time period I'd guarantee that either
of the Old Firm having anything like that would bring the quality needed to compete in both the EPL and CL

Lets face it - the SPL is a 2 horse race every year - any 'decent' player ends up at the Old Firm given the restricted money available.

The EPL, with all its multi million revenues, shall remain a 4 horse race.

United - 11 times
Arsenal - 3 times
Chelsea - Twice
Blackburn!! - Once - [of course, they were managed by a Scot at the time ]

And, now that the scouse thug is back on the scene, I'm sure the last part of the Big 4 will again fancy their chances .

If the Old Firm ever joined it and did nothing for 5 years - they'd be part of the non competing 'other 16' until they built up a squad with the Sky money.

Hypothetical - yes, but given access to that revenue, the Bhoys would be right up there with them

Again, I'm not convinced.
You would, in effect, be another Newcastle.
By that I mean geography works against you.
Newcastle have consistently had to pay OTT wages to players, to get them to uproot to a less than desirable part of the contry, compared with the Midlands/London.
Same with Glasgow.
They'll only consider staying in the place if it's financially attractive.
You pay the same as a midlands/London team, they'll go there instead, I guarantee it.
So your new found revenue might not go as far as it could.

Celtic are one of the biggest clubs in the world with a massive fan base outside of Scotland. If Celtic were competing in a stronger, more attractive league their financial situation would be strong enough for them to compete at top end of the Premier League. Match day attendances and merchandising income would be astronomical and with that comes the ability to pay high transfer fees and high wages.

Plus, there's nothing to say that a club with such prestige could attract a billionaire investor to bankroll them either.

To try and claim they'd be another "Newcastle" is just ridiculous.

Sorry?
My claims are "ridiculous" but your hypothetical, hopeful, optimistic in the extreme and baseless predictions aren't?
Do me a favour.
Compete at the top end?
Haha!
Priceless.
